Try not to hammer my server b/c speakeasy caps me at 30k/sec upload to the outside world.
I thought the ATOT community would benefit from this scientific peek into the minds of men and women looking at erotic stimuli.
I also included one of the referenced articles about ejaculation because I thought you guys would find it amusing.

Commentary on the article
Gender differences in viewing sexual stimuli
Neuroimaging of male ejaculation

Abstract:
Men are generally more interested in and responsive to visual sexually arousing stimuli than are women. Here we used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to show that the amygdala and hypothalamus are more strongly activated in men than in women when viewing identical sexual stimuli. This was true even when women reported greater arousal. Sex differences were specific to the sexual nature of the stimuli, were restricted primarily to limbic regions, and were larger in the left amygdala than the right amygdala. Men and women showed similar activation patterns across multiple brain regions, including ventral striatal regions involved in reward. Our findings indicate that the amygdala mediates sex differences in responsiveness to appetitive and biologically salient stimuli; the human amygdala may also mediate the reportedly greater role of visual stimuli in male sexual behavior, paralleling prior animal findings.

Hah, until a few figure out that you are linking to scientific studies, providing links to anything mentioning sex on a "geek" forum (j/k) :p is just asking to get your site hammered.

Who needs a study to figure out that men prefer visual porn more than women???

Also, who needs a study to figure out that women prefer written porn (romance novels) more than men?

Okay, okay.
Just read the commentary.
That is the digested version of the article.

And this is simply real scientific proof to back up what you've been thinking of all this time.
You need evidence to prove your theory, right?
And its also important to understand the brain as something more than just a a "black box" that "works".

The proof comes from porno shop owners, and book store owners. :p

Hehe,

Actually, the interesting part of the study is that when comparing men and women looking at couples doing "neutral" things like holding hands, guys brains are still activating. Whereas the opposite comparison of women vs men yields no activity. This suggests that guys "read" more into that kind of "neutral" stuff than women do.
And who knows if there is any real truth to the idea that guys on the recipient end of a hug blow things out of proportion?
Perhaps thats another question for YAGT or YAGT.org

I thought this was an interesting comment by Gabrieli also, but still requires a lot more work to really prove.
"The distinction between males? and females? amygdala reactivity appears to map onto that of ?hard?versus ?soft? pornography and is likely to invite commentary from many different schools of thought on human sexuality."

Another reason to look at this study's results with a grain of salt can be seen in Gabrieli's other comment:
"Indeed, none of the males reported lack of arousal to visual erotica, whereas 16% of the female prospects were excluded because of insufficient self reported arousal. This suggests that the data reported here may not necessarily generalize to all women."
Guys had no problems finding the pictures arousing. Does that surprise anyone? :)

BTW, I dont think they come right out and say that women prefer the auditory route of stimulation. I think he was just using that as an intro statement.
The authors are kinda ambivalent about the women data's "normality" since they had to exclude a certain amount of women.

Although anecdotal evidence is good enough for coffee table discussion the understanding of how emotions work and the differences between the sexes are highly relevant medical questions. Knowing it anecdotaly doesn't prove it conclusively. The most interesting tidbit to me was that even when the women reported higher arousal than the men the physical indications were the men were more stimulated. This medically proves all women are liars. ;)

What, you needed a study to prove that to you as well?

:p

I'm a scientist I demand proof of everything, then I use it to my advantage.
