I'm of the opinion OP could do with less time spent on YouTube, it's rotting his brain.

Fwiw, I being a Mason, raised my son on tech so he didnt need to do labor work for a living. He never watched TV, always behind a screen. He's 32 today and succeeding as a Director of Product Development.
I raised my son on tech too (as he expressed an interest in it), but he also watched TV. He got his first own dedicated desktop at 10. Now he's 20, putting himself through college for a computer science degree (I've never been ATOT rich), is a manager at Arby's, plays a handful of musical instruments, was installing custom ROMs on his phone by age 14, taught himself basic soldering, etc.

Add me to the list of raised the kid on tech parenting stylist. I raised him myself aka stay at home dad. He's 23, has 2 2yr degrees and a 4yr degree, summa cum laude. got his first job ever in late '22; software engineer doing super secret squirrel work.

I didn't watch the vid, never will. I'd have to whack-a-mole all of the crazy the algo will feed me afterwards, so I studiously avoid shit like that.

When I'm curious and don't want to taint my feed, I just open it in a private/incognito window. Doesn't work for age restricted videos, of course, but otherwise it's useful.
But I also didn't and won't watch the video in the OP. I did open up the creator's channel to see what else they're uploading (which is a lot, over the last 6+ years).

I'm one of those half dozen weirdos that pays for Youtube premium.

Pretty sad state of affairs. I think the biggest issue is the portability of technology now and how they have it with them 24/7. It's not just screen time itself that's bad, but what they're doing on screen and how often. Lot of it is mindless crap like Tiktok since they can't even stay focused watching longer videos or anything even semi educational. Don't see young kids playing with basic toys anymore either like blocks and such, it's all electronic screen stuff.

The education system probably needs a big revamp too though. Some schools are introducing tech way too early so that doesn't help. They should also be teaching more practical skills like building things. Shop classes should actually be part of the mandatory courses, have them pick at least one.

Hard to know who or what to blame though I think it's just a combination of things.

I don't know enough about YT premium to know what impact that has on viewing videos in a private window so they don't affect your feed...
You have to be logged in for premium. There really isn't much benefit to it anymore. I signed up BITD when the Karate Kid was exclusive. Though I do use YT Music a lot with my JBL google home speaker and Chromecast integration for when I want to tell it to send it to a TV.

Eh, Covid didn't help this cohort at all. Stuck inside, limited interaction with friends - teachers unfamiliar with teaching suing remote instruction. It was just a mess. Also, teachers, are falling behind and not using newer methods (not actually that new) such as the science of reading - which has been shown to dramatically improved the ability of kids in the younger grades to advance in their reading skills. Most universities aren't teaching it, and few school districts require it as mandatory PD. Add that to the constant drip of dopamine from video games and pornography and it's a pretty sad situation (at least for boys).

Oh, and teachers are underpaid - according to an article I read not to long ago - my wife should be making ~$30K more a year than she does (advanced degree + certifications). Pretty nutz. Thankfully, she loves her job (most days).

It sounds like it would then have no impact on the workaround that I suggested ;) If you're not running an ad blocker, then you might see an ad, but could still see the video without messing up your feed.

There's so much extra stuff teachers have to do that is not covered by their salary either, they only get paid for their time in class but they spend way more time than that on school related work. Preparing classes, correcting tests/homework etc. And yeah the covid stuff did not help, it basically encouraged people to stay home and play on their devices as even going outside was illegal in some places.

Was pretty much the same. Basically just substitute TV for smart phones/tablets/computers,
Except boomers were able to get a factory job and pay for car house and get pention with just a high school diploma.

Really? I hate the term "boomers". I'm one, by about 6 months. Do you really think there is any thing in common with someone born in 1946 and 1964?

There were no factory jobs when I got out of HS that would offer enough to buy a car, and a house. And a pension? Give me a break.

And it wasn't any different for people born 5 years before me either.

In this thread, old people continue to believe they are better than young people. I hope millennials ultimately don't become as dense as boomers.
And others come here to deepen the generational divide, as opposed to trying to bridge it.

I never watch the OP if it is a vid, I come for the after comment gold.
Did not disappoint.

And bring great shame to my people? Never. I also have no desire to experience Youtube as a common pleb. Perish the thought. :p I would not have watched that clickbait 💩 anyways. Having to take extra steps further ensures it.
