We used to be one of the most respected, if not feared nation in the world, now we are just laughed at.

Is it better to be a cowboy or a clown? Who knows.. Change you can believe in.

As opposed to getting shoes thrown at us?

I don't mind that Bush got a shoe thrown at him. Its just the thought that the Chinese are laughing at our "finance guy". Any minute now, I fully expect the Chinese to say, "You stupid americans. You spend too much on stupid social programs. YOu money worth nothing. We now can only use it to wipe our butts. You go home now!!"..

The United States of America, the greatest nation in the world.... eerrr... maybe... hey, aren't the illegal immigrants leaving the country? Great...

This is pretty hilarious and worrisome at the same time. Timmy is over there begging the Chinese to keep buying our debt because we are going to be "fine", and STUDENTS are laughing at him because even they know the current policies of the Obama administration are an absolute disaster. Heck, I bet elementary children would laugh at him. It doesn't take a genius to figure that when you're deep in debt and things are tight, you spend LESS, not MORE. What's the estimate now...$14 trillion in debt in the next few years? The Chinese are smart, and there will come a day when they don't need us any more. They know what works and what doesn't.

They were also probably laughing at him because China is doing everything economically that we used to do. They are setting themselves up to be a super power, while the policies of the Obama administration will drag us down into 3rd world country status.

Edit: In before "BUT BUSH!" Bush's $500 billion deficit will look like chump change if this "stimulus" package is allowed to go into full effect. The "stimulus" is all on the O-Team.

Yes, congratulations. Your Messiah has committed to spending more in the next few years than in the ENTIRE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES COMBINED. If the "mission" is to reduce the US to a 3rd world country (which actually is the mission of the current administration), then yes, the mission is being accomplished.

What the article actually said:

"Chinese financial assets are very safe," Geithner said. His response drew laughter from the audience. (Reporting by Glenn Somerville; Editing by Alan Wheatley)

Good troll, eleison.

Chinense financial assets consisting of US DEBT. Good grief, basic reading comprehension FTL.

In the paragraph right BEFORE the one you quoted out of context, bolded for emphasis since you have a hard time reading:

"A major goal of Geithner's maiden visit to China as Treasury secretary is to allay Beijing's concerns that Washington's mushrooming budget deficit and ultra-loose monetary policy will undermine both the dollar and U.S. bonds. China is the biggest foreign owner of U.S. Treasury bonds."

Edit: Even MORE, from the first paragraph:

"BEIJING, June 1 (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on Monday reaffirmed his faith in a strong dollar and reassured the Chinese government that its huge holdings of dollar-denominated assets are safe."

Did you even read the article or just take one statement out of context? Nevermind...we already know the answer to that one.

Who is the troll now?

You would know, wouldn't you?

The article and the point presented by the OP are very valid.

It's not eleison who is trolling.

Just sad how our nation has become more and more crappier as the days go by... Bankrupt GM... some unexperience 31 year old to "help" it restructure (failboat here we come). A racist judge. More people getting laid off. GF is going to be on the "bench" for a couple of weeks due to the economy - she hasn't been on the bench for years. And to top it all off, some stupid shiet decides to shot an army recruiting station. Good times, huhm...

I wish people would stop using this Presidential Election slogan as if it has anything at all to do with our current status of the economy. Makes you all sound like absolute idiots.

Valid, my arse.

To whom does China export $350 billion dollars of goods each year?

Whose currency is the undisputed basis for exchange around the World?

In the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, which country's GDP is still four times greater than the other country?

I find it ludicrous that the bonehead Cons in this thread are choosing Communist China over the greatest capital market in the World for partisan political purposes.

What do you say about that, Troll?

I know...I love how the left loves to blame Bush and the war, but the fact is that even with the war, the biggest deficit Bush ran was around $500 billion.

Obama's deficits are (currently) projected to be around $14 trillion (and constantly being revised up). Without a war!

It's mind-boggling.

Edit: Mega time warp FTW!

Uh, no, my quote is directly from the article linked in the OP.

eleison misquoted the article and added "laughed "loudly" which is definitely trolling.

I don't think you understand what "trolling" means.

I don't know what to think of this. Who are the fools here? After all, the chinamen are the ones that keep buying treasuries like Dutch tulips.

It will be interesting to see who's holding whom hostage when the treasuries come to roost. Will China bend over while we inflate or will their demands for a semi-gold backed dollar be met?
