Geil PC3200

I am thinking of switching from my AMD760/XP2000+ system to the Intel platform, probably a Springdale board. This will require me ditching my PC2100 RAM if I am to go with an 800FSB P4.

Looking at the prices for memory at NewEgg, it seems that 2 sticks of 256MB will run me a good $120+ if I go with Corsair or Kingston HyperX, quite a bit by my standards considering I already have to shell out about $300 for the mobo and CPU. Then I see the brand Geil, whose RAM is far cheaper than the other brands... I could get 1GB of PC3200 (albeit with slower timings, but not really much of a problem) for $140, or if I just wanted 2 sticks of 256 it would be something like $85.

Reading the reviews on NewEgg, it seems that some love it and think it's the best value, while others have trouble... however I noticed they are mostly nForce2 users.

So the question is, should I take a risk and go with Geil, or just fork over the big bucks for Corsair XMS? Anyone with firsthand experience combining Geil RAM with an 865PE/875P mobo, your input would be greatly appreciated.

GeILs lower end (non platinum) pc3200 sucks, often not being able to run at advertised speeds. XMS is definately worth the money. (i think you can get a 512 stick @ gameve for $103/ shipped free)

Same here; running 2 sticks of this in my main system, plus 1 of that and one of these in my second system. Both are running at advertised speeds, in dual channel mode, no problems. That's on 8RDA+ motherboards though (nForce2).
