Geil 512 MB PC3500 for $68 - Is this real?

I found this price at abspc.com. It's Golden Dragon with 2.5 6-3-3 1T timings which makes me even more skeptical. Newegg only has the dual channel kit of 2x512 but that is for $285. Even the cheapest generic stuff is usually $85 at this speed and size.

This seems like a really good deal - too good of a deal, don't you think?

I have two AMD systems running geil memory, both work perfectly.

Perhaps your system won't boot, but mine will!

considering geil sucks that price is probably right (don't buy it if you have an AMD system, it won't boot...even as pc2700)

You == crazy. I don't know what kind of Geil memory you got, but the stuff I buy always works great.

I wouldn't necessarily say geil sucks...I'm running 2x512 in dual channel (not even a dual channel kit) and they still have a load of headroom for OCing, as well as being damn fast and stable since I slapped them in my nforce2 board...you must have gotten a lemon stick(s)

musta gotten 10 (various size sticks of pc3200) 🙁 I was building 5 AMD systems with the shuttle nforce2 IGP board, not one single one worked, tried them in my msi kt4v, nadda, replaced the geil with corsair (newegg is good to me considering how much stuff I buy from them) and not a single problem.

a few weeks later I tried again building a system with the biostar m7ncd, 2 sticks of pc3200 wouldn't even boot at pc 2100, single or dual channel (again, failed to boot in my kt4v)(replaced it with some kreton sticks and it worked perfectly)

on a side note, Tried the geil mem, in some p4 board I had laying around and it worked great, now I won't use geil in anything.

I've also seen many tech support posts for AMD users having problems with geil memory in thier boards.

live and learn I guess...

I clicked on the product info link that took me to Geil's site and it says that this one is 256, not 512.

bah, count me in as another Geil memory basher.

I tried some of that fancy-schmancy "Golden Dragon" (PC3500) junk and it wouldnt even run at its ratted speed in my old system which had a 2.4C coupled to an IC7 mobo.

at first I thought it was maybe a mobo problem so I then tried a friend of mine's Corsair XMS PC3500 and what do ya know? the RAM ran flawlessly ABOVE its ratted speed.

gee, imagine that.

yeah, i had some good experience with geil too. not the best ram for tight timings but they are cheap 😀

Geil pretty much seems like a hit or miss. You either get a total POS stick(s) or get great ones. I rarely see any middle ground with this company. But heck...how can you go wrong with a company whos name stands for Golden Emperor International Limited?
😀

LOL is that what it stands for...anyways i havent had very good luck with geil ram, and after readign other threads over at the amdmb forums...generally geil does not seem to work very well with nforce2 boards.

two sticks of 512mb pc3200 work great for me in my 3200+ NF7-S system. thanks to you chumps who returned your memory, I got refurbs from newegg for only 51 bucks.

I will have to say that it is proven that geil does is a bit picky with nforce2...but if it works, it works well
Now I'm really curious...what does Geil mean in german?
