Hello:

I have a p3-500, 128ram and an TNT2U card. I did the 3dmark2000 benchmark, and I got 2500!!!!, that is incretible slow (well, just slow), so maybe I will change my video card to a newer one, but I don`t have mucho money, so I will go to the GeeforceMX or a Raden, but I Don`t know wich of them to buy (it is obvius that I will buy the best one), so please, can somebody tell wich card should I bought??, also, having my spec with one of those card, I will get much more preformance, I mean getting at least 4500 or higher in 3dmark200).
Well, thats all, thanks.

I would suggest that you go with the 32mb DDR Radeon. Not only is it faster than the Geforce MX in 32bit color, but it also has much better 2D quality as well as DVD playback should you ever decide to use it. And perhaps most important in my mind is that the Radeon will be better able to take advantage of DirectX 8.0, which helps to make it more future proof than the Geforce MX.

I'd go for the Radeon DDR also. It will be a bit more than the MX but will be much faster. The Radeon SDR is around the price of the MX but is still better in my opinion.

The Radeon DDR can be picked up for maybe $150 or even less if you got in on some special deal or coupon.

Hooray for 3DMark! It's sooo good! :) The Radeon 32DDR is faster than the MX. You also may want to look into the V5, with it's recent price drops it is a great deal.

Ok, so the winner is raden ddr (or maybe sdr), but I have a p3-500 with 128 ram. My question is that with my spec I can have at least 4000 points in 3dmark2000??? (Now I have a tnt2U and the score was 2500, very slow)
thanks

Yeah, you should easily get at least 4000 points. I've got a P3 600e and a GeForce2 MX and I can easily break the 4500 barrier. Considering that the Radeon is faster than the GeForce2 MX it should more than compensate for a slower processor.

well, just for comparison, my setup, 700@933 with a tnt2u got ~3500 3dmarks (done in win2k so...). i upgraded the video card, to a geforce mx and got a score of around 4750 (win98 bench). if i overclock the mem and core of the geforce to around 185core and 190mem, i can get a 3dmark score of ~5100. If you are concerned about 3dmark, (you shouldnt be) a geforce2mx will not cut it for you. overall, the radeon 32ddr is a better card, it was made to go against the geforce2 gts, but is kind of in the mx price range.

crimson wolf, how are you getting 4500 with a p3600? or is the geforce mx already the bottle neck at that speed?

I would suggest the Radeon also, it has a very nice feature set, and like someone else also said, the DVD playback is just great, its a gaming and multimedia card in one. And its a little faster then the Geforce2mx too :)

GOSHARKS: Yeah, at that speed the GeForce2 MX is already a bottleneck. I confirmed this when I overclocked my processor up to 744Mhz. At that processor speed, my score only went up about 25 points, which is well within the margin for error. However, I haven't gotten around to overclocking my video card (Elsa Gladiac MX) yet. Once I do that, it will probably produce much better results, more similar to yours.

Oh man...PLEASE don't tell me you're basing the card you get on 3DMark. 3DMark is soo horrible. Worry about games, not that.

Deeko has a good point. Don't get worked up over a benchmark, a rather inconsistent one at that. The games are much more important. Instead, base your decision on the types of games you like and do a little research. For example, if you love Q3, go with something along the lines of a GeForce2 series or a Radeon DDR. I UT is your thing the V5 5500 will give the best performance because of Glide support. If you play flight sims, FSAA will be your best friend for life. Both the GeForce2 GTS (with Detonator3 6.xx) and the V5 5500 have extremely good FSAA performance. Just base your decision on the types of games you play. Considering the offerings from the "big 3" (Nvidia, ATI, 3dfx) you shouldn't disappointed with what you get.
