GeforceFX compatibility

processor: slot 1 pentium3 - 500
mobo: asus p3v-133
mem: 640 sdram pc133
videocard: riva tnt

i want to change my video card to at least a geforcefx 5200, as im slowly upgrading my super old pc... will the 5200 work on my pentium500? i know that 8x agp will be downgraded to 2x only, but i dont know if the card will support my old pc... thx in advance 🙂

To be honest it would be extremely silly to even consider trying to upgrade that machine, the graphics card would end up being the most powerful thing in there.
 
Yeah, it's really not worth the bother.

You could get a PCI card for it if you really want some better video. Since that machine is so old, a PCI card will be plenty. Still not worth the money imo.

You could possibly speed the old girl up quite a bit with a slocket adapter and a faster P3 chip to go along with a new vid card. I would only do that for sentimental reasons, though because you can get a lot more computer for nearly the same amount of money.

ok, i need to buy another system 🙂... but i still have to replace my crappy vid card to something better since the p3-500 is still working fine under winxp. which gforce card would it be then? (the one that is agp 2x compatible and will give a performance boost without the need to overclock)
