GeForceFX Benchmarks

The performance looks to be pretty good, but I really would like to see it benched against an ATi 9700 PRO. I don't care about performance relative to the Ti4600. That isn't in the same league as the FX. I especially want to see how well the lossless color compression and adaptive anti-aliasing improve performance. I'll wait to see some real benchmarks before I draw any conclusions.

Fortunately, you'll have about three months to research and make a good decision about the gFFX.

I think I'm going to wait to see what is available from ATI, nVidia, Matrox (Cough) and Bitboys (Muhahaha!!) nearer the release date.

Bitboys is focusing on PDA's right now. They have a fat contract from a huge japanese electronics-manufacturer under their belt and they are designing a PDA 3D-accelerator for them. I have seen it running and it's SWEET! But for now they are out of PC 3D-scene (which is a damn shame!)

I don't think JC specifically said there would be a 30 fps limit, but for the type of game that Doom 3 is going to be it certainly doesnt require an ultra high frame rate, especially since its concentrating on single player.

but expecting a higher framerate with the NV30 probably isnt something we should except. After all, Mr Carmack DOES want to cap the fps around 30 or so. Thats film-speed, thats all you need. To be able to keep 30fps, while havin tons of baddies on the screen, while running at 1280x 1024, while in high quality mode, is some achievement for any card!

but maybe the fps-cap will be a little more lenient on the NV30, just so the card can use its little extra horsepower and flex is muscle, providing us with maybe around 70-80 fps @ release time.
I don't see why he'd want to cap the frame rate. It doesn't help anyone, really. Movies run at 24 frames per second. NTSC television runs at 30 frames per second (don't know about HDTV). PAL runs at 25 frames per second (not going to touch that French standard). Contrary to common belief, almost any human can tell the difference between ~30 fps and ~60 fps--this is why "ride" films screen at 50 fps to offer a greater sense of realism. Anything over 100 fps probably doesn't do anything for most people, though.
