My feelings toward the GeForce FX 5600 Ultra vary. It seems as if this card was really built with FSAA and anistropic filtering in mind. If you are a budget gamer looking for raw horsepower on current games, this may not be the card for you. You can find Ti4200 cards at your local Best Buy for less than the $199 MSRP on this card.

However, if you are like me, and want the improved graphics quality that antialiasing and anistropic filtering can bring, than I can recommend the FX 5600 Ultra wholeheartedly. It has great performance under those conditions, is fully DX9 compliant to help you with new games coming down the pipe, and comes at a price that won't keep you eating Ramen noodles for the next six months.

5600 is rather impressive but the 5200 is not impressive at all 🙁 the difference is worth the extra $50 in my opinion
 
whoa, i didn't realize that nvidia set the msrp on their latest and greatest to be a "measely" $200. doesn't that make the inferior ti4600 more expensive then their latest?
 
When you look at all the Nvidia FX models, I still think the 5600 Ultra FX is the best model and probably will be their best seller,performance and price is not bad.I wonder how much speed increase they can get with better drivers down the road.

 
The Radeon 9500Pro looks to be better from Extremetech.com comparison to Geforce 5200/5600. Same MSRP as 5600 last I recall but definitely lower street price. Better performance and image quality. The only downer is that it is being phased out shortly by the ATI 9600 and we don't know how that'll perform in relation to 9500Pro.
 
Its pointless to compare the 9500pro unless you already have one or you can buy one right now. Wondered why no one has the 9500pro in stock? Reality is the 9500pro is discontinued alredy, as it was simply a stop-gap part to fill the middle-market between the 8500 and 9700pro. AT and numerous other sites allude to the fact, but it makes sense as ATi was using an expensive, full-blown R300 core on a part that could be had from $150-$200 (non-pro or pro).

The 5600U should be a nice part though, offering lotsa choice along with the 9600pro in the 150-$200 range.

Yep, they're the only one to do an ATI comparison. The 9500 Pro does clean house. If the 9600 Pro is faster than the 9500 Pro for $199, I'd say that ATI has this round won.

Compared to the old as nuts 9500, the 5600 doesn't look all that good.

I just went over to NewEgg and they have two 9500 Pros in stock ($181, 199).
Mwave has some in stock too ($179).
GoogleGear has it in stock for ($200).

You can't forget about the fillrate difference between the 9600 and 9500, though.
 
I could really go for a 5600 Ultra. Maybe a few months from now I'll be able to get one for $150 or so with good overclocking abilities.

Its an un-neutered .15 R300 core running an 8x1 pipeline vs a neutered NV30 on a .13 process at 2x2 (not even known for sure), so it should do better based on specs. If the 5600U gets a performance boost from drivers similar to what the 5800/U experienced, it should do just fine. One thing's for certain though, ATi isn't maximizing their margins on those cores. The 9600pro has half its pipeline cut (4x1) like a 9500 non-pro but has faster core/mem clocks and optimized memory controllers. Not sure if that'll be enough to put it on par with the 9500pro, but it'll certainly be penalized in games that require high fill-rate.

As for 9500pro stock, looks to be better than a week ago, but all the sites you listed only have OEM cards available. Clearly a crapshoot as to what you'll find in clockspeeds and memory speeds, as well as IQ from what people have been reporting.

Edit: There's a few threads in hot deals where people can't find any 9500pros at B&Ms, and the word from mgrs is there might not be replacement stock.

If I were employed and really had money to burn, I'd get the 9500 PRO. But, since I am unemployed and can't justify the upgrade anyway, I'll hold out for 9600 PRO benches. (My Radeon 7500 plays Battlefield 1942 just fine at 1024x768 with 8x AF...albeit with no FSAA.)
 
Why is the 9500PRO hard to find all of a sudden? Price? I bought my (built by not powered by) ATI Radeon 9500PRO retail box in December for $199 with free s/h at Newegg. Doesn't seem to be that big of a price difference between then and now. Anyway I'm glad I got one now that they seem to be "hotter" now than when they came out!!!😉
