Geforce4 ti4200 power probs

I just installed a Gainward Geforce4 ti4200 128mb vid card and recently i have been getting bleeps when i play my mp3's. I only have a 300 W power supply with 2 7200 rpm hd's, 1 dvd rom, 1 cdrw, LAN card, SBLIVE! Value sound, and a duron 1200, with 512 megs ram. are these bleeps because the sound card is not getting enough power? i previously had a geforce 256 sdr and there were no problems at all. I was also thinking that mabey there is a compatibility issue with the sound card and the vid card. any thoughts?
 
well, i did try unplugging everything except for 1 hd, lan card, sound, and vid card, and it still made the sounds. i would think that 300W would be enough to power just that. could it be something with compatibility?
 
It should be, be sure to update ALL your divers for your vidcard and sound card. Also to make sure the card is in all the way.

I have had a 430w Ernamax go bad on me and those are the strange types of problems that you start to have. Also I have seen lots of cheep 300wat PSUs in a normal system, not be enough power.

So my friend pfft back at you.

Well here is another funny thing. whenever i play games (ie Morrowind), it doesnt make those sounds. its only when sounds are played in the windows explorer. Its almost like a short static sound that pops randomly during songs. i know its not the speakers cause i tried diferent ones and the same thing happened. If it is the power supply, why would it not do it in games too? Either I'm missing something, or windows is just messed up.
 
all drivers are new and everything is set up correctly.
Ok, i think i got it. i replaced my new duron 1200 with the old duron 700 and it works fine now. that is really strange. now the only prob is that i dont know if the problem is the new cpu, or if the new cpu just wasnt getting enough power. ill just have to try the 1200 on my friends computer and see what happens. luckily duron 1200's are only $50!

i already tried that too. i went from 1.6 V (base) to 1.725 V. it shouldnt need any more power than that to play a few music files.
 
300 watts of decent power supply is fine for that. Unless it's an Enermax, then it doesn't matter what wattage it is, I'd suspect it. Officially on my **** list now, they won't even reply to an email from the US branch, though Casey in Taiwan tried to help.

I'm running a GF2ti, TB SantaCruz, USR modem, Athlon XP 1600+, (2) 7200rpm HD's and (1) 5400, floppy, CD burner, assorted fans, normal peripherals off my Enlight 300w, all fine. Though my Enermax 350w gave up at the same task.

Do the drivers thing.

But anyway like others have said I have noticed different scenarios where PSU's last longer then others with higher wattage ratings.
 

I had a few similar problems with the same Gainward model you've got, I changed my box to a Chieftec with a 340 W and the problems persisted, since I've installed the latest Detonators they seem to have gone away.

<--- Was very scared of having to RMA the graphics card back to Gainward :frown:
