Geforce4 4600 and GTA3 rendering problems, is this a known problem??

Just got my hands on a GF4 today as well as a copy of GTA3. Tried GTA3 on my old Voodoo5 5500 AGP today and it seems to run well at *sob* 640*480*16. Slapped in the GF4 and tried loading a previously saved game on the Voodoo and the system would give me an exception. Tried starting a new game, and it loads fine, but when in the game, the graphics are all rendered improperly. I'd see cars without the hood, just the 4 sets of wheels, and on some areas of the city the map is all white and the screen loops itself over and over again, with half the screen being transparent blue.

Is there a fix to this? Perhaps a new driver? I'm simply using the default driver that came with the Visiontek card. Trying to download a new driver right now. I apologize if this question has been asked previously.

Kinda sad to spend so much money on a new vc and a game and it doesn't go well, aargh.

Thx.

Don't know about the graphical glitches but the 1.1 patch is supposed to fix the errors with loading saved games (if the copy is legit). Who knows.. it might fix your graphics problems too.

You might need to re optimize the textures for the new card. When you first start up GTA 3 it optimises textures, and this may be the problem. I can't remember exactly how to do it, there are a coupla files you need to delete. Might be in the readme somewhere or on the website, but that's just another possibility that may be the cause of your problem.

Slapped in the GF4
I assume that you removed all traces of your Voodoo5 before you dropped in your GF4 Ti4600?

And that you reinstalled the game (or at least deleted the config file and/or re-ran the setup program for it) so it re-detected your new video card?

I have a GeForce4 MX and had the same problem with texture corruption... I needed to install a patch so that the game would work ok (I think it's a known issue with NVidia cards). But honestly I have no clue where to get it, since it was a friend who sent it to me. Try looking around in sites like www.gouranga.com, or other sites about GTA3.

The save game issue is a different matter. Try updating or using a different .exe if you're using a backup...
