Geforce3 Ti200 128MB vs. Geforce4 Ti4200 64MB???

Hey all... first off, I value all of your opinions in here more than anyone else's anywhere... so here we go...

I am stuck in the darkages with my Voodoo3 3000 and I think its time to upgrade...

I am stuck between these two:

MSI MS-8851 GEFORCE3 TI200 128MB DDR for $129 plus S/H or should I wait for the Geforce4 4200 64MB to come down to around that price? I really dont want to go more than $150 shipped.

I have also looked at the Radeon 8500 LE 128 MB and between these three... I have no idea anymore where I want to go.

My system specs are TBird 1.2 w/ 640mb ram on a Abit KT7-RAID.

I would avoid le version ati cards as support is even worse then just regular ATI subpar performance....

My le has numerous driver and compatability issues...also le's are often underclocked cores and subpar memory....I also didn't like the HSF on mine....


How does a geforce 4 mx 460 like gainward golden sample where the card is extremely oveclockable...the memory over 600mhz ddr...I think oc'd 460 should be able to defeat or stay in par with GF3 ti 200 card while I belive offering some of the better features of the GF4 line....

You know Nvidia drivers only get better and wil keep gaining some performance out of this young chipset...

I have looked at the G4 mx460 and according to the reviews I have seen on tomshardware it performs sub-par when compared to the ti200 which was the only reason I strayed away from it.

See if you can get a R8500 (regular), if you can, Id take it over the Ti 200, although, consider getting a GF4 Ti 4200 128, it should be out widely any day now and it'll rip apart both thge Tt 200 and the R8500(LE)

I just recently got the MSI GF3 Ti200 card with VIVO for around $140 shipped. It's a lot of card for the money with the VIVO and 128 megs of RAM. I haven't played around with it as much as I'd like to so far, but I tried out JediKnightII and I was hitting minimum fps in the mid 40's at 800X600X32 at 2X FSAA & 2X Aniso with all the in-game detail cranked up. That's plenty fast for me so I'm not regretting not waiting on the GF4. My thinking is the GF3 is fast enough to play what is out now and what's on the near horizon, and of course the GF4 will be faster, but neither will be quite fast enough for things as far out as Doom3 and the next UT, so I'll most likely be skipping the GF4 altogether. I have a (original) Radeon LE in the system I am about to retire and have not been impressed with ATI's drivers, so that made me shy away from a 8500.

Beatmix01, you can currently get a Geforce 3 ti200 for $120 (with s/h). If I were in your shoes I would wait one month until the Geforce 4 4200 becomes more widely available, thus forcing the prices of the ti200 down below $100.

The Geforce 3 ti 200 is a good card, and the fact of the matter is, although the Geforce 4 4200 is a better card it probably isn't worth the extra cash for you. Seeing that you have the Voodoo3 3000, you probably aren't a super 3d junkie. The geforce 3 ti 200 should be perfect for you, both in terms of price and performance. Don't forget that the ti 200 often overclocks to ti 500 levels, and the performance difference between the ti 500 and the 4200 isn't worth the price difference.

Good advice...I'm sort of in the same boat, b/c I'm looking to make an upgrade to my old Radeon 32DDR/7200...I'm so out of the gfx loop though; I'm content with playing Jedi Knight 2 on my Radeon at 640*480 at medium everything :eek:

Where's a good place to get a Geforce Ti200 for a good price? I keep getting mixed revs on NewEgg...

Ok guys I think I have decided where and how I am going to spend my loot. I t hink I am going to buy the Chaintech that I posted and save the extrack bucks and buy myself a new burner... my 8x just aint cutting it anymore...

Gog: You made me realize.. I aint no hardcore gaming junkie and I know that if I were to get the G4 Ti4200 I'd want the 128mb version, and I dont think that it will fall to $125 anytime soon.

One of my friends has a Chaintech GF3 Ti200. It has 4ns RAM so the memory can run comfortably at 500mhz, I'm not sure what he has the core at though.

Another bit of advise Beatmix, from all the reviews that I've seen (there have been a couple,one at digit-life) the performance difference between 128mb and 64mb cards is miniscule (although the chaintech 128mb card has gotten good reviews). So if money is an issue, you can opt for a 64mb Gainward which oc's very nicely and may costs less.

I was trying to decide between the Visiontek Geforce 2 GTS-V for $50 and a Geforce 3 Ti 200 which at the time cost about $150. One day I was browsing the hot deal section, and Allah praise anandtech hot deal section ;), there was a post about getting a Geforce 3 ti 200 from Gateway Accesory site for under $100. I naturally jumped on it. Anyway, my point is that with the Geforce 4 ti 4200 coming out, the price of the ti 200 should drop and theres probably no better place to look for a good deal than Anandtech's Hot Deal Section!:D

I'm curious how well a Geforce3 Ti200 with 128megs of ram is going to work with the next gen of games that can actually use that 128megs of vid ram. I just picked up a Geforce3 Ti200 with 128megs of ram at Newegg for $109. I seemed like a good deal at the time since it looks like the Geforce4 Ti4200's 64meg cards aren't even at $150 yet. I'm hoping this can guy swing Doom3 ok when it hits.

I recently upgraded from a TNT2 Ultra to a GF3. What a difference!!! I can now play my favorite games and have a good framerate and turn eye candy on. It's incredible how a graphic card upgrade can change the way you look at your computer. If I hadn't ordered parts for my next rig, I'd probably save the money for another 4-5 months. If I were you, I'd check for the Hot Deals or even FS/FT (that's where I got mine). I got a Gainward GeForce3 (regular GF3, not Ti) for 120 bucks shipped to Canada.... can't get better than this. I'm currently running memory at 540 and still no signs of problems anywhere... I really love it :)
