excuse the newbie question, but i have never owned a geforce card. do all geforce3 and geforce3 ti cards have mounting holes around the gpu for attaching a hsf? i know that most just have the heatsink glued or taped on, but i read an article over at void your warranty where they installed a socket7 heatsink onto a geforce2 ultra using the holes that are drilled around the gpu. i just wanted to know this was possible on the geforce3 cards before i go buy one and get all excited about mounting a larger hsf.

thanks a lot!

Depends on the card, but yes they do have holes to mount the HSF. Most cards holes are also in the same place. Just pull off the stock HS/Fan by pressing the pins from the back of the card and pulling through. Smack on a blue orb and you're ready to OC. Does as much good as most other solutions, and it's less than $9. Now that I think of it... ThermalTake is coming out with a new product called the Crystal Orb. The base is copper, whole thing coated with nickel and based on one review it outperforms the blue orb by a few degrees C.

Save the old HS/Fan so if you have any problems you can just put it back on.

hey, tazdevlthanks a lot! just out of curisousity, do you know if the leadtek geforce3 regular/ti 200, the gainward geforce3 regular/ti 200 and the PNY verto ti200 have the standard mounting holes? those are the ones i am looking at. i'm assuming that the leadtek and gainward (being high quality manufacturers) at least would have the mounting holes.

thanks!

NP. I'm pretty sure they do. I'm also considering the Gainward GF3 Ti200 as well and I know it does. Same setup as most motherboards do... 2 diagonally opposed holes.

Got in on the Dell 8500 deal... but if the drivers don't work as of tomorrow I'm cancelling my order. Shouldn't have to wait for a graphics card company to get their drivers right... especially considering they've been in business for over 10 years. Gah... smoothvision... a highly touted feature is being held off for another 3 weeks, but they marketed the hell out of it. Kind of laughable.

IMO Gainward makes one of the best cards on the market. I've had other cards next to a Gainward GF3... Gainward had the best 2D. Newegg and Buyeee have them in stock at the moment. Newegg has it listed as "Golden". Don't know about that one, Gainward doesn't have it listed as "Golden" on their site. Gainward cards also tend to OC further than most other boards.

NP... it appears people that ordered 10/2 had some boards shipped on Wednesday. If I don't receive mine by the time I get an nForce in my rig... I'm buying the Gainward. FYI they have one called the Ti550. Read somewhere stock speeds for it are 260/560. Of course it won't come cheap.
