I have an MSI GeForce2 Pro with TV out...the one new egg sold for cheap for the longest time...I'm an A/V idiot, and have no idea how to hook the thing up to the TV...it came with a double-ended PS2-like cord (what is this called?)--what do I need to get to hook this up to the A/V cables on my TV? Is it worth the trouble?

thanks,

It's called a s-video cable. You have to have a s-ideo port on the back of your TV to use it. If you don't then you will need a svideo to RCA dongle that usually come bundled with cards. If you have neother s-video or rca on your TV to connect to then I dont suggest doing it. Going through a RF converter or VCR to your TV can really really dampen the image quality. Cause by then your forceing rthe signal through to an F type connector or Coaxial cable

Both ends of the cable I have appear to be the same..What is RCA? All I have on my TV is the audio-video cable ports, such that one plugs video game consoles into...???

thanks for the info,

spwango:

on the back or front of your tv....what connectors do u see besides the regular cable connector?

if u see one that resembles the ps2 port on your computer then that is the S-VIDEO input.

A) get a s-video cable and plug it into the tv and your video card then switch to s-video mode on your computer
the video should come on channel 3/video-in of your tv.

if you see 3 or maybe 2 connectors with colors red, yellow or white then those are your video, audio right, audio left connectors.

B) 1) you need to obtain a s-video to video composite cable which basically has the s-video connector on one end and a video in on the other
2) plug that cable into your tv and computer and it should work

C) u should also buy audio connectors so that sound can be played on the tv....unless of course you have speakers on your computers

if you dont see any other cable connectors on your tv

C) buy a new tv with those connectors

Ah, thanks for the info..that's what I needed to know. My TV does in fact have Left Audio, Right Audio, and Video jacks...considering this, is it still going to be worth the trouble/expense to hook this up?

Thanks!

Dude, go to Radio Shack, show them the cable and tell them to give you an S-video to RCA adaptor. Then buy a regular audio cable which has one 3.5" jack on one end and two RCA jacks on the other end.

Total cost should be around $10, surely you can swallow that.

My friendly advice would be to exeriment as much as you can... since you don't seem to know things that are elemental (I'm NOT putting you down!!!), you have to recuperate. The only way you'll learn is by doing.

And yes, it is worth the hassle.

Well, I'm not afraid to experiment at all (I *did* build the machine I'm working on from scratch)--I do not know much about A/V equipment--particularly in terms of how much things costs. For all I knew, the cables could have been expensive. So, I was trying to enquire here as to whether or not the road I'm barking down was worth the money--If that amount of money is ten bucks, I'm there.
