This is something Ive been trying to resolve for quite some time... I think I have found a solution but it happens to get annoying..

So this is my routine for starting a game of cs.. Once the system is booted

Go to display properties\ Advanced\Color Correction\ I have a scheme that I have saved for playing cs (much brighter setting) its good when playing cs but its much to bright for desktop settings (browsing, etc)

it seems many of you have Nvidia cards.. and I was just wondering how you guys cope with this? or is there an alternative that I dont know about?

Sigh:: why doesnt Nvidia have something like 3dfx where you can config the gamma individually in this case where you would config the opengl and it wouldnt affect your desktops gamma.

EDIT: and the bummer is.. often times I find myself forgetting to change the color scheme and launching the game.. its dark as fawk!.. then i would have to exit, change color, then relaunch :(

I don't play cs anymore, but I used to use power strip to do the same thing that you're doing with your display properties. Its a little quicker, and you can change your gamma on the fly in the game.
