geforce2 mx400 problem

just bought a geforce2 mx400. i have a asus a7v133 with athlon 1200. got the newest detonator 3 driver. performance is VERY bad out of the card. the book says the card can't share irqs with any devices and win2k has it sharing 9 with everything else in the computer. do i need to and how can i change this? if that's not the problem, what do you think is?
