I picked up the MadDog GeForce2 MX400 today, $39.99 - $30 MIR. Not too bad a deal, except the card is plain vanilla, with just the VGA connector. I wish it had TV out, then it would be great for my purposes. Also, no active cooling, but Lifetime Warranty from MadDog!

Can't believe everybody missed that, I looked at all the CompUSA threads, and didn't see it mentioned...

If you are looking for a budget card that can run Doom 3 on low settings, Counterstrike:Source with 40FPS average, World of Warcraft, and Tribes:Vengence fairly well then this is a VERY good card!

i would seriously doubt anyone can play doom3 "normally" with a gf2mx without dying from a headache

I picked one up just to have a $10 videocard to troubleshoot what is wrong with my main computer. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be a videocard problem.

If you have a fairly good Processor (Mine is 2600+ or 2GHZ). And the beggining you feel the lag then it smooths out a minute later. will only work on low mode!

OMG, they still make GF2 MX's? :)

Price is nice, but it is PCI or AGP? Would make a nifty secondary card for multi-mon rigs if PCI.

What kind of cooling does this card have? Is it active cooling or just a passive heatsink? I might jump on it if it's passive...

Although I already have $300 in outstanding rebates, adding another $30 does not make me feel good... :\\\

Ok, the price sounds good but how does the performance compare to that built into my ASUS A7N266-VM/AA with the nForce chipset? I have a dozen of these in place and would like to upgrade their video.

Well, a dedicated vid card will always perform better, and the 64MB GF2MX cards were pretty good in their day... I still have a GF2 MX 200 that's no cooling at all lol - that's NO HEATSINK. That weak compared to today's cards.

That board pretty much has a GF2 built-in. I really doubt you would see much improvement.
BTW: That is a rock solid board - I only got rid of it for the the GF4 of the A7N8X-VM/400.

All else being equal, the card brings additional memory into the mix. My guess is it would out perform its onboard cousin readily. I'll pick up one just to see.

now the better question would be... Is it available in any other stores? those which offer a price match ;) I hate fooling with rebates

When you say "..plain vanilla.." does that mean it's not a retail package?

It's retail MadDog, with a driver CD. The card is very simple - that's all I meant by "vanilla".
