I think that the Geforce2 MX is just a cripled Geforce2GTS core (it only has 2 rendering pipelines as a opposed to four)...let me rephrase. I think that the only thing crippling the Geforce2MX core is the lack of 2 pipelines...
Um, the main thing that's crippled is the memory interface. The number of pipelines don't bother me so much as the fact that they're halving already-limited bandwidth. Still, for $120 retail, it's a good deal.
I find it kind of weird how NVidia supports either 128-bit SDR memory or 64-bit DDR memory. Theoretically, the core can support 128-bit memory either way. I guess that's up to the manufacturers though.
The MX seems to be to the GTS what the M64 was to the TNT2 ultra...i.e just a budget, crippled version of a great card. Personally I would rather spend a bit more cash and get a better card.
