i just set up a new system with an FIC AD11 and a Duron 750@800 and its running great, but when i started counterstrike, it got all sttutery and skipppy when i moved around, it looked worse than my slot A athlon 700. can anyone tell me the reasoning behind this?

edit - ok, i have a new way of describing this, in free look mode, whenever i move with just the directional keys, everything is VERY VERY VERY smooth, BUT when i start using my mouse to turn and such, it absolutely seems like frames are getting skipped. and it gets all stuttery and really ugly looking. when it gets ugly though, my FPS(frames per second) doesnt get any slower than when i move around with only my directional keys, so i think somethings going on, and i need you guys to help me! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! help!

No its not alright to use a Via 4-in-1 for an AMD chipset..

however, AMD should ship with its own AGP drivers and Bus Mastering controller drivers..

Some things to check:
- Whats your nvidia reference driver version?
- Are you using a different OpenGL than the standard?
- Not using the Auto aim are you?
- Any programs running in the backgroun, suchas disk monitors, virus scanners.. etc. Disable em all.
- Replug your sound card properly.. i know this is a weird suggestion, but ive had sound cards not in placed right still running, but caused system lock ups.. odd.
- Is your HDD fragmented?
- Is FSAA on, if so, is it 4.. is anisotropic on?
- Is L2 cache somehow disabled, or any other BIOS settings that may affect the system majorly (low AGP aperture, CPU drive strength, etc.).
- On a new motherboard installation, i prefer to reformat first.. saves a lot of headache later (dont do this unless everything else cant fix prob).

Counterstrike is hardly a demanding game, GF2 should get over 100 FPS easily. Hope these suggestions can help ya.

Does it look like it's tearing, or does it appear to jerk a lot? The tearing problem occurs because you have buffer flipping and/or Vsync turned off. If you're getting stuttering or jerkiness, it could be that you need to set your AGP aperture setting higher or lower in your system BIOS. Since you have 256 MB of RAM, set it to 128 MB. Also, try using a memory optimizing program like Cacheman:

Cacheman 4.1

This program may help, along with keeping your hard drive defragged periodically.

Edit: Also, it's a good idea to set up a permanent swap file of about 150-180 MB in size.

<< can u define tearing and jerking? >>

Tearing: the graphics in the game look like they are tearing horizontally when you move left or right. It's more noticeable when looking at white lights or bright objects.

Jerkiness: The screen basically stutters when moving in any direction. It's usually accompanied by hard drive thrashing, but not always. Sometimes a game will have a "smooth mouse" setting in the control settings. See if it's checked. It may be an in-game bug unless it does it with all your games.

LOL To think a lone mouse could drag a powerful system down so badly.. :) maybe they oughta release mouses with Hardware processing of signal and tracking. Or H.P.S.T aka Huge Piece of Sh*t Trickery. And market that as a huge game increasing product!! ^^
