I have a GE Force 2 GTX 64 meg card that is always dark in all the games that I play. I play Everquest, Anarchy Online, and Quake 3. In everquest there is a gamma slider that I can crank up to full so that I can see fairly well, but in Anarchy online there arent any Gamma options. If someone knows of any tweak files or just general info that could help me I would appreciate it. I am running an AMD Athalon 1.2ghz with 256 megs of ram. I have also tried messing with the gamma setting in the Geforce display properties and it makes the desktop brighter, but not the games.

Thank you

nvidia cards are dark. i don't know why. q3 is much darker on my geforce than on my v3. there are some gamma settings in the control panel that can be messed around with, i suggest you try those out.

I've noticed the same thing with all of the nVidia cards that I've worked with too.

Pump up the gamma settings in games where it's available and turn up the brightness on your monitor. =\

If all else fails, I've read someone who had the same problems, got a bigger power supply, and all was fixed.

Get the program Powerstrip... which is a general display tweaking utility. The newest version lets you adjust the gamma in game using hotkeys. I believe the shortcut to adjust the gamma is control-alt-plus or minus on the num pad. It will help you alot in a game like counterstrike where there are a lot of dark places throughout the map.

man, this blows. when i got a tnt2pro a month ago i noticed the same thing. back then with my savage3d quake3 would be bright as ray, and now even the gamma slider in quake3 is messed-up, it will increase the brightness just to a certain level, and after that it doesn't make any difference despite the slider being moved to the right. i thought it was some driver issue but since have tried 3 different driver versions and the problem is persistent in all of them. oh, btw, it's not only quake3, all of the opengl games. tried powerstrip and it works, but i hate that program so i got rid of it. would have stayed with the savage, but no opengl and direct3d in win2k with it, and i couldn't play any games.. bummer.
