Geforce2 GTS Compatibility Issue

Configuration:

Motherboard: Tyan Thunderbolt S1837UANG / 440GX / AGP 2X / AMI Bios Version V2.00.09
Windows 98 SE 4.10.2222 A
Pentium III 500Mhz 128Mb
Creative PCI Live Audio Card

I have previously attempted to install a ELSA Gladaic Geforce2 GTS AGP card. I reformated my hard drive and did a clean install with the Gladaic installed to insure there was no driver conflicts with the previous video card (Creative Blaster Exxtreme). I also upgraded my BIOS to the latest revision and installed new Intel 440GX chipset drivers. The Gladaic would not function, but the system would boot to Win98SE. The Device manager indicated error code 24, device not functioning or drivers not installed correctly. The system would revert to the standard VGA driver and disable the Gladaic.

Anyone have any idea what the problem is? Any suggestions?

Obviously I'm looking for an alternative to the Gladaic. Based on this experience will any of the Geforce2 GTS graphics cards work? Any other recommendations?

TIA
Emos

Does it work if you don't install the GX drivers?

What drivers are you using for the GF2?
Try using the latest nvidia reference drivers from www.nvidia.com

What GX drivers are you using?
Have you tried the latest Intel INF file?

In your BIOS have you disabled all forms of video caching?

Tried nvidia D3 drivers - same problem

OS disables card during boot and reverts to 16bit diag mode.

Below is the Conflicts/Sharing, IRQs, Memory, and Problem Devices sections from the system information utility. I can email the complete text output, in zip format, from Microsoft's system information utility if necessary.

The system posts, but the card is disabled during boot. The drivers install
without error. Let me know if there is anything else I can try.

Does it work if you don't install the GX drivers? >>Yes

What drivers are you using for the GF2? >>ELSA lates from their site
Try using the latest nvidia reference drivers from www.nvidia.com >>Did that with same result

What GX drivers are you using? >>Latest from Itel site
Have you tried the latest Intel INF file? >>Yes, doesn't their Software Installation Utility install both at the same time?

In your BIOS have you disabled all forms of video caching? >>Yes I think so

Are you saying it works without Intel drivers ?
Those drivers are for Crystal ISA audio and Intel LAN.
Any reason you need them? You've got PCI soundcard...

EDIT
Anyway I think Elsa drivers are prime suspect.
Remove them completely even if you have to reformat again.
And if you do reformat take out all components except videocard.
After loading Windows install Nvidia reference drivers.
Then add components one by one.

>Are you saying it works without Intel drivers ?

As soon as I install ELSA or nvidia drivers (thereby enabling the GF2) the card craps out.

I've tried both ELSA and nvidia drivers with the same result.

Also tried reformating and removing or disabling everything I could.
Not much changed except I had a lot of free IRQs.

The power source for the AGP is the problem. Just doesn't have enough current for the GF2,
or so I'm told. It makes sense though, as soon as the GF2 is enabled the board dies.
Running in standard VGA mode, no problem.

Thanks for the help

Your cut/paste replies are rather confusing.

I am unaware of any power problems with GX chipset.
No power issue can prevent driver installation .

Its possible some obscure BIOS setting is causing this.
Reset CMOS. You can also revert to previous BIOS version.

It is important not to have any trace of ELSA drivers .
They include some poorly tested utilities .
Which are installed separately and are hard to get rid of completely.

If Nvidia 6.xx drivers do not work then start with 5.xx after reformat.
