I recently purchased a pair of Soltek SL-K8AN2E-GR motherboards from Newegg for an upgrade for the wife and I...

The next step is to get us a couple of GeForce 6800s...but until then I'm wondering if I can use our existing videocards with this motherboard.

The board has a warning label over the AGP slot that says:

CAUTION
For AGP 4x/8x VGA Card Only
Using AGP 2x VGA card on this mainboard may cause mainboard damage. Please check before use.

The GeForce2 is a GTS, and it has 64MB ram. I don't recall the manufacturer of this one, it's been too long ago when I bought it, and I'm not sure where the box/manual disappeared to. I *think* it's a Creative.

The GeForce4 is a TI-4200 version with 128MB, by VisionTek. The box says it's capable of AGP 4x with Fast Writes.

I just want to make sure I'm not going to hurt the mainboard if I use the cards while we wait on getting the GeForce 6800s. If anyone can give me some advice on this I'd appreciate it...itching to use the Athlon 64 but don't want to hurt anything.

It's probably warning about older cards that draw more voltage (like how some Voodoo 5s didn't work with a range of P4 motherboards, I think you should be fine, someone correct me if I'm wrong

Thanks, figured as much but wanted to double check because I hadn't seen anything like that.

I have seen a vanilla GF3 fry a P4 motherboard that had the same warning and that card is newer than the GF2 GTS.

I'd try the Ti4200 first just in case.

The GF2 should be 2x/4x, and the 4200 can be either 2x/4x or 2x/4x/8x. The main problem is the voltage spec, so I'd check on the voltage for each card and the MB (via manuals or website), to be safe.
