Geforce2 GTS 32MB S-Video Out OEM $39, WARNING: rec'd USED 64Mb! GTS board

>How did your video card go from 32 meg sdr to a 64 meg meg ddr?
>What program are you using to tell you it is 64 meg ddr?
>Also, what program were you using to tell you it was 32 meg sdr before?

Hi RadioactiveMagpie,

I ordered a 32Mb board. ENPC.COM sent a board marked "30001180" but I ordered one they listed as "Model No: 30001197". What I received didn't look like any of my other GTS boards. It has what looks like SDRAM. I thought I was screwed and immediately posted a warning about this deal.

Then I put it in one of my systems, and the 3DMark 2001 benchmarks are in line with GTS performance.

Sandra 2000, 3DMark 2001, and the Nvidia Display Properties app (right click on desktop) all see this board as a 64Mb GeForce2 GTS / GeForce2 PRO. The NVidia clock frequency utility shows that the board is set to the GTS defaults: 200Mhz CPU and 333Mhz Memory (166x2, as it is using DDR ram).

The weird thing is that is does seem to have SDRAM, but it is DDR (double data rate) SDRAM. Follow the GeForce FAQ link in the top post for info about DDR and SDR boards. There are 8 ram chips on the front of the board, and none on the back. Each of these ram chips has leads along only two sides. I've never seen another board like it, and a quick Google search on the part numbers came up blank.

I have four more GeForce and GeForce2 DDR boards here for comparison. They all have DDR SGRAM, with leads coming out on all four sides of each ram chip, and they all have four ram chips on each side of the circuit board.

I'd suggest waiting until we find out what other folks get before ordering one. Customer reviews suggest caution when dealing with this vendor.

Has anyone here ever pre-ordered anything from them? Because on the website you can pre-order an OOS item for the price listed. What are your guys feelings on this? This is a great deal on this card because they also list the GTS-V sold at newegg for about $44+s/h. I think I might just pre-order because they might raise the price back to $45, what do you guys think?

Hi Mindless1,

The SUMA GTS-2 board in your links has the same 8 chip sdram layout as the Visiontech GTS-2 64Mb which I received from ENPC.COM. The Visiontech board has a standard agp edge connector and the common small black Millenium HS/Fan. I'd still like to hear what other folks get from this dealer. Their yo-yo pricing, up and down, is a bit strange.

Hyundai
HY5DV651622 < same ddr sdram ram as the SUMA GTS

The article talks about the "... Hyundai memory, which is the most overclocking friendly memory today.". And goes on to say that the usual Infineon DDR SGRAM doesn't OC very well. This agrees with my own experiences. The Hyundai ram can be overclocked from 333 to 420 (the max on the NVidia toolbar), and the desktop looks ok. Games show plenty of sparkles at 420, but run fast and clean at 395Mhz. My boards with Infineon ram can be oc'd from 333 to 36Xish, that's it.

I would take that with a grain of salt though... the article was written in Dec.'00. Like everything else, memory manufacturing technology gets better, and memory performance levels a bit across_the_market. Maybe Hyundai chips are still better, or maybe not. With all the ram surplusses that were piling up last year, it may depend a lot on when the particular memory chips were made. Infineon no longer produces any 6 or 7ns SGRAM, and yet my GF2GTS-V with Infineon chips "marked" as 7ns, will run at 197Mhz->394DDR with zero visual anomalies, will go over 400 but then the "snow" starts to increase. I may someday try to o'c it in a really cheap SS7 motherboard & dinky power supply just to see if it can still hit the same speeds.

Mine isn't expected to arrive till May 20.
kinda feel like ordering a grab bag rather than a video card from replay's experience.

Edit may 20th: card came in, odd card just as replay described.
nvidia drivers says its a 64 meg card, but I have no way of really telling.
The drivers cd disc that came along has "geforce gts-v 32 apg bulk".
Looks oem new to me.
pretty hot deal if its a 64 meg geforce 2 gts card for $39.

i just got a Visiontek Xtasy GeForce 2 Titanium 64MB DDR TV Out AGP - OEM. the problem is they only gave me the drivers and not the software. does anyone know where i can download the software that would allow me to display the screen on my tv? i tried visiontek.com but they only have drivers. any help would be appreciated. thanks!

Hi Digiworks,

The TV-out capability is built into the Nvidia drivers. Right-click on your desktop, click properties, settings, advanced, then click device selection. The TV option will be greyed-out if you are not currently connected to an operating TV or VCR. You can also get there by clicking Start>Settings>Control Panel>Display>Settings>Advanced>Device Selection. You will find more recent unified driver downloads available online from Nvidia.

Did you order the $39 GTS-2 32Mb card and get the 64Mb? What sort of markings do you have for part numbers, model numbers, and on the ram chips?

I also got the GTS-V card from newegg. Flashed the card's bios to give full GTS performance. But this is a hotter deal since it has TV-out. Their model number does not correspond to anything from Visiontek, retail or OEM. I suspect a typo and may order anyway.

I also got one from Newegg, and flashed the GTS Pro BIOS. Change in performance? Zero... Only overclocking enhances the performance.
