Hey,

I've been out of gaming a while and i just got my desktop rebuilt w/ all my old stuff and i tried to play a few games (Battlefield 2 demo, F.E.A.R demo) and htey are all giving me some sort of error relating to directx 9.0c. I ran a directx destroyer, and installed the 9.0c drivers but htey dont install right. In safe mode htey say 9.0c but on reg. boot it says 8.1 (because i rolled back to get rid of my old drivers). I wanted to know if this card is compatible w/ directx 9.0c because its only 2 years old but I should be able to upgrade to the directx 9.0c to play the games

Also, should I install the directx 9.0c, run dxdiag to make sure, then install the game to see if it works? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

heh you'l have no chance of running BF2

that game requires Pixel shaders 1.4 minimum and the GF4 Ti series only had 1.3

how ever FEAR has a DX8 mode, so u should be able to have a go at that, but you will need to have DX9.c for the runtimes. it should of just installed as an upgrade to DX8. DX9c even comes in the FEAR demo im sure.

the card is more than 2 years old tech wise. this card is pre R300 and thats 2yrs+ old

it should work though, it should be compatible and work with DX9 installed, even though the card doesnt have any DX9 level hardware at all

the games need it to run, because of the DX runtimes used i think

well your card doesnt support DX9 but its strange DX gives problems while installing. i suggest you get a 6600 or a X700Pro for about $100(or maybe lesser).
you can probably play BF2 at the lowest settings...640x7 and everything set to the lowest.(im not sure though!) games like HL2 should run well since it supports DX8.

Specs of my machine

AMD XP 2800 @ 2.1 Ghz
Asus a7n8x mobo
512 XMS @ 400 mhz
GeForce TI 4400

I'll look for the directx settings for old 8.0 ones. Hopefully i can get it to work. Also, any suggestions for a decent vid card for about 150 taht will play anything out there at decent settings?

I would recommend these cards in order:

6600 GT
6800 LE (129.00 @ newegg, this card has potential to be unlocked w/ extra pipelines, etc)
6800 NU (vanilla version, if you can stretch you budget a bit, you can obtain this around 160 $)
X800 pro refurb (right @ shop.ati.com although it's refurbished, and cost 179.00, but it's best bang for the buck. Considering itself as a high range card, included with 3 years manufacturer's warranty)

As far I'm concern about your budget, stick with either 6600 GT, 6800LE (I recommend greatly), or even 6800 NU which is better
