geforce mx 4000

Hi, I was wondering if anyone heard of the preadator geforce MX 4000. Compusa has it on sale for $39. I have a Amd 1.1 gigz with a Geforce 2 MX. I am going to upgrade once the new PCI Express boards come out. I want to get a cheap card that would hold me other for a couple of months. I was going to get a 9600SE but just read all the bad reviews. Is the Geforce MX 4000 a big upgrade from the Geforce 2 MX? Also, will the new pci express motherboards still support AGP? Thanks.

David

The Geforce MX 4000 does exist. Search on either Nvidia website or Compusa website. I think it's a faster version of the Geforce 4 MX 440.

Nick1985 ..you?ve been flying your broom too much lately... 😉 ... you have to get back on the ground and keep up with the hardware news.😀

I'd stay away from it. Somebody a while back said they got one and it only had a 64 bit memory bus. Now, with the figures on mad dog's website, it lists 8GB/s bandwidth, which would mean it probably has 512mhz memory and a 128bit bus, the same as an mx440-8x. So at best it should be about as good as an mx440, but if those figures are wrong and it turns out to have a 64 bit bus it'll be much slower.

I would look to get a cheap, used gf3. I think you should be able to find one for $40 no problem, and it will definitely be faster than your gf2.

Most of the ones I've seen have a 64bit memory bus so it's much SLOWER than a regular gf4 mx440. I imagine a 128bit mx4000 will be equal in performance but don't count on it.

xfx geforce mx4000 review at ultimate hardware

"This video card has many bad points so here goes. Firstly the 128mb memory with this video card is worthless due to the 64bit memory bus which is why it's performance is so bad. Even the 4year old Elsa Geforce2 MX 400 was able to match it's performance which in 2004 isn't an acceptable level of performance. The Geforce4 MX440 which the MX4000 is based on was able to blow it out of the water which makes the "more expensive" MX4000 completely worthless.

If your in the market for a good performing budget video card then get a Geforce4 MX440 or Radeon 9200 and leave this duffer of a video card on the shelf!"

Thanks for all the advice. I'm going to stay away from the geforce mx 4000. I'm going to try to find a geforce 4 ti or wait it out till the pci express boards come out.

Oh, is the first generation pci express boards going to be any faster then the current agp cards? I'm a casual gamer and I can still get games to work on my aging geforce 2 mx. I was just take make sure the agp cards can still be used on the new pci express motherboards. Thanks again.

PCI Express? never heard of it, I couldn't imagine that it would be any faster than agp. Should be limited by the motherboard. I'd be interested to find out what that is.

Yea, PCI-E is going to be an industry change, but I think it will only be big when BTX mobos are introdced, then people will be getting entirely new systems.
