just to add to my previous comment, ATI drivers are crap.

Maybe three ago. These days, however, ATI & Nvidia both put out good quality drivers. I have a 3870 and a 4850 and haven't run into any issues.

I just switched to a 4870, and the drivers are junk. im having several problems that have been an issue since catalyst version 5 and are STILL an issue in 9.2

What might these several problems be?

I think i have most things worked out, but there is still one irritating issue (i've posted another thread here asking for help solving it):
Every time i restart or shutdown my PC, a ".net broadcast event window cannot be closed" message comes up, and will timeout the shutdown process if im not there to click "end task".
This started only after i installed the ati drivers, and from some searching on the web, people have been having this issue since around ver.5 drivers.

man I love this card no more retarded lag in crysis so far have it overclocked to 830/1080(4320) with the fan at 50% and it doesn't pass 75 degrees with crysis anyway, it idles at around 50 degrees..

playing at 1680x1050 8Xaa and the dx9 dx10 high quality settings

between the normal and overclocked settings there is only a slight jump in fps nothing big, but so far I'm pretty damn happy with the card

Gonna hook it up to the 1080p tv and play some other games also

Does DX10 look that different to the high quality mod settings in DX9 I had tried it with the 8800gt on windows 7 they pretty much looked the same to me but didnt really look like a massive difference

@coinz

Congratulation on your purchase, also those are nice clocks! I've never notice that much difference between Crysis DX10 and DX9. Overall I would say just stay with DX9 with crysis.

@Rassilon

I've never seen that problem using CCC. Why don't you just get rid of CCC and use ATi Tray Tools?

Im not sure that its a CCC issue, vs display driver issue... does telling CCC to "exit" from the system tray icon menu actually close it? as i still get the end task window with CCC exited...

since its kind of off topic, if you have some ideas that can help, please post in the thread i made asking about this problem. thanks.

If you ever plan on hooking up your HDTV to your computer via HDMI, I would go with ATI.

I'm looking to upgrade my 2xHD4850 but I've become so addicted to the convenience of hooking up my beautiful 55" 1080p LCD, I will not look at Nvidia until they offer onboard sound via HDMI.

nvidia cards DO support audio over HDMI...
At least, the gtx260 card i had, has a jumper for SPDIF from the MB for HDMI audio... i didnt try it, but i assume it works.

Like I said, on-board integrated HD audio controller with support for stereo and multi-channel (up to 7.1) audio formats, including AC-3, AAC, DTS, DTS-HD & Dolby True-HD4... without hooking up spdifs to your soundcard and special configuring, makes ATI the winner for me because of the convenience.

Come on Nvidia, it probably is only a $2 dollar chip! Do it already.
