Nvidia clearly have a good idea what Vega performance is going to be (I'd guess rivalling Titan XP/1080ti) and have launched early
to steal AMDs show. The pricing seems indicative of this as neither vendor cut's prices when they know they have a clean sweep on performance.
Selling my Titan XPs and will probably wait for Vega.

Well, I write this as a pro-AMD guy. Not a fanboy, but I cheer for them most of the time due to various reasons.
Now I can say just one thing: AMD, good luck countering this.

Amazing card, amazing price. Its clear the optimal GPU price is 699.

Yes, optimal pricing for an extremely niche market segment...if that is even a thing.

But this is one solid card and the price is very surprising. "no FE tax"? ....well, I'll believe it when I see it. But damn, Titan XP performance for 60% of the cost. I didn't think nVidia was going to present that large of a middle finger into the faces of TXP early adopters, but, well, there it is.

But this is very shrewd by nVidia. So many Ryzen chips sold by AMD over the next couple of months, and so many customers gobbling up 1070, 1080 and 1080Ti when AMD doesn't have much to offer (though a $150-180 480 8gb place holder isn't a terrible idea....still). This release and pricing cut is going to sap away a lot of potential Vega customers. Well done, nVidia. I wouldn't call this checkmate, but it's definitely check.

If rumors I've seen lately are true, AMD has a niche for their products.

I saw "faster then 1080, $400-$450" for Vega it will sell. The $400-$450 market is much larger than the $699 market.

Their main problem is 1070/1080 price cuts before Vega launches will sell cards. I think AMD needs to paper launch here if they cant launch, and at least give people something to wait for.

I had a thought it would not be as cut down a die as people said it would be. It would have been a disappointment, especially at that price, for the people waiting for a 'reasonably' priced card with GP102.

Nvidia marketing still being tricky. Claiming best ti ever is pretty ridiculous using the comparisons they did. The 1080 was an awful card. It gave about a 15% boost over aftermarket 980ti. Compared to the sorts of gains seen in their past generations from 980 or 780, it was abysmal. Obviously the larger Pascal die will deliver a bigger percentile boost using the comparisons they did, but it's one of those true with major caveats claims.

$699 is decent for where we are at price wise, isn't that what 980ti sold for ? It's $500 less than the TXP. We're going to see the TXP replaced with a a full die in the not too distant future for $1200 I'm sure. The grand milk strategy continues. I need to sell my card and get a 1080ti Classified now to contribute to the grand milk! I wouldn't mind seeing Vega first though, but it depends how far away it is. AMD pulled some sort of incredible voodoo with their new CPU, maybe they have the same coming with their next GPU.

I am gonna hold out to see what Vega brings, might get into test mining and whatnot.. But this looks like what I've been waiting for, if Vega is not going to at least 1080 levels, this is the card that replaces my aging 780.. Damn I want it.

Probably for most situations. My TXP has driven 1440p 144hz in most games I play with a few exceptions.

Considering the fact the Titan XP can do 4K/60 with most of the settings if not all turned up I don't see why this card can't. I wouldn't say it's 4k 60 ownage though.

It's not too late for Vega, but the bar has been raised. If the top Vega SKU decisively beats the best Pascal card (and it should be able to, based purely on the numbers) then there will be a ready audience from those enthusiasts who must have the best regardless of price. And GPU sales don't happen all at once - Q1 is actually a pretty slow time of year, the Christmas season is much more important.

I have not seen a single number or demo of Vega that alludes to it being faster than Nvidia's best. In fact I've seen the contrary pasted all over. We will be lucky if we get a Fury X vs. 980 TI again, even though that was fairly one sided.

I don't think that's what he meant, but of course people will be buying high-end GPUs in H2 2017. Unfortunately, AMD won't have any... not if Vega is so pathetic it can barely compete with a year-old mid-range Pascal as what we've seen indicates.

Not sure how that is a bad thing. Those who bought the 1080 on release have been enjoying unparalleled gaming performance for the past 9 months, and this will apply for 1080ti owners unless Vega ruins the party.

By this logic the people who wait for Vega are an even worse off position. This is why I say get a 980ti/1080ti/titan(if you're willing to pay another premium to have it even earlier).

Otherwise you wait for Vega and in 3-6 months time Volta comes around destroying you.

So your line of reasoning is only more of an incentive to get this gpu at launch.
