Geforce FX5600 AGP Problems

Hi guys,

I just bought the Inno3d (AGP2x/4x/8x)FX5600 128MBcard. I plug it into my Asus (AGP4x)A7V133-C mainboard. Everything works except i can't get it to work at AGP 4x mode.
I tried disabling AGP fast write, write combining and setting aperture to 128MB. But still to no avail.
Also installed the lastest drivers from Nvidia.
I had no problem playing games like Halo or Call Of Duty at 2x mode. But it crashed, hang, or monitor display "sync. out of range" error at AGP 4x mode.
Anyone got an answer to this weird problem.
Thanks... 🙂

As usual complete system specifications would be nice. 🙂

1. Have you tried installing the latest motherboard BIOS?
2. What monitor do you have? The sync error probably means the refresh rate is out of range.

Im using the Samsung SyncMaster 551s monitor.
Mainboard Bios version at lastest ver1009.
Running Althon 1GH at 1.2GH. 512MB Ram
Asus A7V-133C.
Windows XP PRO.
Refresh rate set to 70Hertz 800*600.

The problem here is your motherboard. The A7V-133C uses the VIA KT133A chipset - nVidia cards have documented instability with those chipsets at AGP4X. The drivers are automatically stepping down to AGP2X in order to allow the card to properly perform.

I'd suggest just playing at AGP2X - you won't notice a massive difference - but if you do want to upgrade, post the rest of your system specs and the Anandtech masses will give you suggestions galore.

IF i want to upgrade to a Althon XP 2500. Which motherboard brand or modelwould you recommend so as to ensure compatability at AGP 8xwith my FX 5600. I was thinking of MSI and Abit.
Thanks...

Interesting...

Finaly someone who has a clue about this problem (refering to you MercenaryForHire). I'm running both Win 2k and XP on separate partitions on my system. In my 2k environment the AGP 4x is reported alright but in the XP the maximum AGP speed is 2x. When poking around with drivers etc in XP I noticed that the AGP 4x was available when I had uninstalled the video drivers, but as soon I installed a new driver this option disapeard. In the 2k partition I have not updated the video driver for quite I while and that could explain why the AGP 4x still works there.

So anyone know how to "enable" the AGP 4x when still using the newest drivers?

My system is:
Mobo: QDI Advance 10B (Bios 3.0SLC)
Graphics: Asus V7100 deluxe combo.
Driver in Win2k: ASUS 12.60 (Nvidia 12.60)
Diver in XP: ASUS 56.55 (Nvidia 56.55)
Tool for checking AGP speed: AIDA32 (freeware)

Grateful for help!
