Thanks!

It depends on the brand, while 2d is very close for all brands across all chip lines. Leadtek is rumored to have the highest 2d quality of them all.

Dude, you need go to rehab. Cause you gotta be shooting dope to think that statement. Cause a head full of morphine can't tell the difference or be able to comprend todays FPShooters.

...but for real...
A 5950 is second only to a 9800pro/xt. And thats a CLOSE second. And a thousand more pts in 3dMarkX00X doesnt do a damn thing to you gaming experience.

Buy a card for yesterdays games, cause tomorrows games (hl2/DIII) are going to require a up grade anyway if you want the kind of fps that everyone in this forum lives and breathes for.

You can buy a socket adapter for around $10 and a CPU upgrade like above.

Consider a new motherboard/CPU combo.

My system is a 1.4ghz (socket 478) with the first generation DDR ram (not sure what speed - maybe 2700?). So maybe I should just upgrade CPU to a 2.4ghz (socket 478). Any idea if that setup will still bottleneck a FX5900?

The only reason I'm really shying away from upgrading CPU+MB is that with a MB switch comes the need to get new ram and new copy of XP? All this equals a lot more money than just plugging in a new CPU.

Any thoughts? Thanks for all the great replies.

I'd upgrade the the CPU/memory before the 8500... P4 1.4 I'd say is probably more of a bottleneck than the 8500.

but I'm not 100% on that.
