Well, it's great to see that everyone agrees! This had made the issue much clearer! LOL! :)

its that simple, shut up fanbois.

Lets try that again.

9800 Pro to save $100 and get equal performance to the 5900 ultra.
5900 Ultra to spend $100 more and get more or less equal performance.

edit: Remember when the 9700 Pro Came out? It was said then that it was only slightly fast (win some/lose some) compared to the Geforce 4 Ti4600. The 9800 pro IS faster in most games today and will be in future games. Over time, just as the 9700 began more and more to beat the 4600, with new driver releases and just plain old market acceptance, the 9800 Pro will be decided as the no doubt winner vs 5900 Ultra.

Call me another name and I'll be happy to report you. Don't cross the line, son. Be an adult, and take being proven wrong with solid facts like an adult, rather than some child who obviously doesn't know what he's talking about.

Not solid facts. Mostly everyone besides you and nebor agree that your facts are doctored and false.

Most everyone? Including reputable sites, which again, I'll be happy to prove and show, that's not the case. You're the epitomy of a bandwagon follower. At least I base my information on cold solid facts based on MY personal testings. You annoy me, and I won't waste my time any longer in responding to you. Read up some more about your information, son, and maybe you won't appear so ignorant next time.

i was about to jump on one of those evga 5900 for $250 to put in my friends system. then i ran across this review. why is it that every 5900 ultra review gamepc does shows the 5900/5900 ultra sooo much slower than the 9800 pro? is it safe to assume their methodology sucks?

By ronin and nebors way of reasoning yes, by everyone else's no.

edit- why it came out so much ahead was because they used non standard games that nVidia didnt have time to make cheats for.

RoninC5 sure sounds like a winner. The girls are really impressed by his "I play computer games for a living..."

I get the impression that everytime someone brings up a link to an article, especially where the ATI card is a better value or higher performance, that at least two people in this debate are going to disagree no matter who the source is because they know it all. This is why Anandtech forums really took a hit awhile back and so many people basically got tired of the whole scene. If you just come here to know it all then perhaps you should start your own site and prove you actually do know something.

Q3A: enter game, choose resolution, click demos key, press tilde ("~") key to open command prompt, type in "/timedemo 1" without the quotes and press enter, close command prompt by pressing tilde key again, click the "play" button at the lower right hand corner of the screen, after the run is over open command prompt again, record the fps result located on the very last line of the command prompt.

UT2K3: find and open benchmark.exe file, choose resolution and press "start". At the end of the run a tiny display will pop up that will show the botmatch and flyby fps results.

JK2: enter multiplayer mode, choose resolution, press and hold the shift key while hitting the tilde key to open command prompt, type in "devmap ffa_bespin" without the quotes and press enter, open command prompt again after map is done loading and type in "timedemo 1" without the quotes and press enter, type in "disconnect" and press enter, open the command prompt again and type in "demo jk2ffa" without the quotes and press enter, after the run has completed open the command prompt again and use the Page Up and Page Down keys to find your fps result.

That should give you a very general idea of how your cards perform against each other.

Hehe, this thread is fun to read. I'm building my next system (old one will still be used) in about 6 months and have decided that the video card will either be the Radeon 9800Pro 256MB or the GeForce FX 5900Ultra 256MB. I really have no loyalty toward either company. I had an ATI Rage Fury 32MB card in old system and didn't have any problems (of course, who would with a 440BX MB - most stable MB ever!) and now have a GeForce4 Ti4400 and like it as well. I was leaning toward the Radeon because it seemed to be lower priced and I read somewhere that it might run cooler. I'm not sure about either of those statements now though:

9800Pro 256MB >> $417.75 including shipping
5900 Ultra 256MB >> $406.75 including shipping

I'm definitely a gamer, but haven't enabled any of those AA AF settings at all and I know most don't play with those on. Anyone that says that most gamers play with these on is an idiot. I plan on enabling these to some degree on my new system though. I also know that UT2003 was optimized for the Nvidia cards and UT2004 and Doom3 will be as well, so this may sway me to Nvidia. Actually, I've pretty much made my mind up on everything in my new system except for the video card and the DVD-RAM at this point but both categories are down to two different models.

I will continue to read about both cards and decide when the time comes. Hopefully, both prices will be down a lot by then as well. Of course, once I decide on the card, then what brand, aaaaaaaaaaaaah.......

Edit: To the Dude above me - If you have a Ti4400 wait for NV40/R400.....I'm sure that card can still pwn when it comes to games

magomago, the new system will be a second system, so I'll still have both. I really don't want to spend $400 on a new video card anyway, so if I decide on Nvidia, then it will be the 5900Ultra 256MB one. Oh, and those card prices should be at XtremeGear!

Ronin, you don't work for TAC, do you? You sound JUST like them. It's kind of freaky. No, I'm not trying to insult you. :)
