hi all..I have a CL GeForce DDR that has been giving me fits lately...my system consists of a P3 800 that I have run at 1123 mhz, the card locks at any CPU speed in all of my 3d apps except Q2 my reasoning being Q2 doesn't stress the card very hard. it will lock in Q3, UT, Motocross Madness, etc. Q3 locks within a minute or two of entering the game. I have tried setting apeture size to 32, 64, 128, all to no avail. I have also tried different heatsinks (not oc'ing card at this point) all to no avail. I am using Windows 2000 and the 6.34 drivers. It is using IRQ 11. Is this card screwed up, or is there something else I should try? I've run out of ideas guys. Thanks

It sounds like it used to work on all those games, so try:

- reseating the card
- setting AGP aperture to 1/2 system memory
- disable all video memory shadowing
- disable any video ROM caching
- reinstall drivers by first changing to [/b]PCI Graphics Adapter[/b], reboot and then install the latest Detonators

What motherboard do you have? Start with the basics, set the CPU back to 800, then set the AGP to 1x no sidebanding and no fastwrites (if your mobo supports it). Do you have another video card? Try to isolate the problem to one component (don't overclock anything, then do one at a time, video last).

I have a Soyo 6BA +100 motherboard. I have set the CPU for 800 mhz, and it still locks up. I have another video card, however, it isn't a 3d capable card. I'm not sure if my mobo supports sidebanding etc. or not, I will reboot and have a look around. thanks

ok, I disabled video shadowing etc. set apeture to 64 mb ( I have 128mb ram) processor to 800, reseated the card, reinstalled the 6.31 drivers, and it still imediatly locks when I get into a Q3 map, locks after about 10 minutes in motocross madness, and Q2 continues to run fine. I installed 3dmark 2000, and the card also runs this just fine, getting a score of about 3900 in Win2k running the default bench.

update: Quake 2 also locked up after about 10 minutes of play. I guess my next resort is to try the card in a buddies system and see what it does. :(

just downloaded SP1 and the critical updates in hope that it would fix it..it didn't.

is this a common thing for cards to do when they go bad?

I have the same problem with you. I changed my mobo to fix the problem. I guess it came down to an agp slot not being able to supply enough power to the Geforce DDR card. THe first generation of GeForce are EXTREMELY power hungry. One "possible" solution you could try is to fun the video card fan off the motherboard not off the agp which could help. In my case it didn't help.

My originaly mobo was pretty old so I guess it won't hurt to change it and the problem was gone!

I also had that same problem with my Geforce 6800 (ASUS) and I ended up dropping back to 6.27 drivers and got perfect stability, its worth a try...

BTW its on a BX board too....

yea, thats whats weird..this card ran flawless on an Abit BX6R2 for over 6 months...then I switched to this board, and it ran fine for a few weeks, then started giving me fits. I'll try a different set of Detonators to see if it helps. Also, the fan is running off my fanbus, not the agp card itself, so that is not the problem. thanks

well, it has to be my motherboard...the card works fine in my buddies BE6-2, I bought some new ram (Mosel Vitalic..the good stuff) clock the processor at 800...and it still locks..would upgrading to a GTS solve this problem, as they draw less juice from the AGP slot?

Yes. Any of nVidia's newest boards (GF2 Ultra/GF2/GF2 MX) are made from the 0.18 micron process and they draw far less power. They are more compatible with older motherboards because of this.

Has anyone proven the fan taking more juice thing with respect to the 6800? I'm having similar lock ups in 3d with ASUS drivers but stable with detonator drivers. My AGP Voltage reads 3.15.

I can't figure it out. While I'd like to have the Detonator drivers, It appears to mess up my video capture driver such that any of the popular/common proggies (Iphone, NetMtg etc.) don't show the video. If I drop back to ASUS drivers video capture works great but I get the lockups.

HELP!!

I'm not sure about the fan..but I guess any little bit can help... 3.15 volts sounds low, most run at 3.3, and newer boards are either adjustable or run at 3.5

well, I don't know what the FUG to do now..I upgraded to a GTS...formatted my HD..the thing still locks up..it won't even run jack shiz now...soon as it goes into 3d the monitor just goes dead...I guess I will try to get my motherboard RMA'd...anybody have any experience with Soyo? will they send me a new mobo first, or do I have to send my stuff to them for weeks and weeks before I see another?

hey dill, this is tony who sold you the GTS, one last resort is to try these drivers. it might work.

http://zoiah.m3dzone.com/

under the special drivers section, download MR.Fs drivers. and dload the newest and most recent one that is available. i believe its version 2.0 that is using the 5.30 drivers.

if you have any more problems have you tried looking at this website?

http://www.geforcefaq.com/

i hope it helps you out. When you play your games, are you running it in opengl or Directx mode?
If you are truly desperate you can give me a phone call. Your absolute last resort is to either upgrade power supply or change/replace motherboard.
