GeForce 8 series GPU temperatures

I can't find any solid information on max temps for the 8 series cards.

Does anyone know what the max recommended temperatures are from the reference material?

I recently installed a new 8800GTS 512 and I idle at 60C and routinely hit 80C on load (GPU temp not CPU/motherboard temp).

Is this too high? I haven't noticed any negative effects from these temps.

Search.

Last I heard, per some threads in eVGA support forums, 110C is the max safe operating temperature for G92. I think we can all agree that's absurd. Anything over 90C would start to worry me.

I wouldn't worry about ~80C. Before I put a vf900 on mine, it would load up to 108C at times - and this was in my very very well ventilated case. The stock cooling sans fan fix is just inadequate, plain and simple.

Your temps are normal. However, I use Rivatuner on mine with Fan set at 60% which is completely un-noticeable to me. Temps idle at 46c and max in low 60c's under load.

Like NoName, I set up a fan profile in RivaTuner and my temps don't go above the mid-70s at load. Even still, you're fine with temps in the 80s. GPUs can tolerate more heat than CPUs.

110c is not absurd. my 6800 constantly ran at 120c for months until i cleaned it. gpu's are VERY resilient.

GPUs are very resilient, but 110C is plenty absurd.

1) Just because your core from a completely different architecture ran at a certain temperature level does not mean newer architectures will withstand it.

2) You have a whopping sample size of 1, and it's not even from the population we're discussing.

3) Higher heat = less OC potential

4) Even at stock, less heat is always better.

There are a lot of things I COULD do with items I own that I DON'T do because they're bad ideas.

I idle at ~35C and load at ~40C.

I have watercooling :p

On an 8800GT, I'd say set the fanspeed manually to ~50% or so, it'll still stay plenty quiet but it should load at a lower temp as well.
My friends 8800GT's fan speed is set to ~60-70% under load and that keeps it plenty cool enough. (probably hits 70C under load? 50C idle? I forget).

I have the refreshed G80 8800GTS 640 SSC card with the updated A2 core and 112 stream processors. I use a custom fan profile set up in Rivatuner to ramp up 60-70-85-100% fan speed as temps hit <58c, 58-65c, 65-72c, 72c+ respectively.

Idling right now at 51c, 60% fan. Max it has hit while COD4 gaming is 64c, so 70% fan speed and I can't hear it over my relatively quiet 4 case fans. It becomes noticeable ~ 78%.

way to take things out of context ja1484.

"110C is the max safe operating temperature for G92. I think we can all agree that's absurd."

keywords; safe operating temperature, not safe overclocking potential temperature. the card will not die anytime soon at those temps. my x800 runs at 96+ constantly. no problems. i did not give him the number of 120c to say that he should have it run at that temp, but 80c is far from anything that will hurt his card.

And I told him the same. I also told him that the max spec'd operating temperature for G92, 110C per eVGA, was absurd.

Which it is.

Have a nice day.

and you know this how? did your card kill itself after running at 110c? you tell me i couldn't know. how could you know? did you help create these chips? at least i have 2 samples of any card working at very high temps. what do you have?

good day.

can riva tuner control the speed of the Zalman VF1000 if it's plugged into the Motherboard chasis?

Mmmm watercooling. If only I were adventurous (and had the cash) to try WC I'd OC quite a bit. :) I'm running an 8800GT with the stock fan (XFX Alpha Dog - so it has the slightly larger fan) with just air cooling (I do have a pretty well cooled case) and I idle at like 45-48 and hit no more than 63-maybe 64 at load. I keep my ambient room temp a bit lower than some do tho.

I just flipped off my fan that i got with my Intel processor using a flat screwdriver and stuck it on there... I have an accelero, idle at ~40, load at 50-60... You can find a lot of uses for that fan...

Oh I never said you couldn't know. I just said anything above 100C is an absurd load temp. for current chips.

Which it is.

Take care now.
