GeForce 7900GS and artifacts

With a few games (TW 2006 in particular) the artifacting is horrendous. I don't know if it's just a video card issue, or both a video card and a dual core issue. I have a Core 2 Duo E6600.

I don't think it's a dual core issue because I turned off one of the processors and the problem persisted. The video card is acting like it's overheating.

49C is not high for a idle temp, but what about load? what program are you using to monitor your temps? does your 7900gs only artifact during gaming? finally is your card OCed?

sorry for all the questions.

My 7900GS (Leadtek) has graphical corruption too - I think the 7900GS is going to suffer the same fate as the GT.

The 7900GS in my computer is clocked at 450/660, which I believe is the default NVIDIA setting. I tried underclocking it, but it didn't help a bit. If I replace it with another 7900GS, I'll probably run into the same problem. Should I replace it with a more expensive 7950GT?

I have a dell xps 410 with a geforce 7900gs as well. I am also occasionally getting artifacts while playing Half Life 2 and lost coast in 1280 X 1024 with details maxxed out. The card is not overheating though it just seems to have artifacts. It doesnt happen every time i play either. I have mapped my temps and they always stay under 75 degrees, it idles at 48-51 degrees.

I HAVE NOT gotten artifacts on other games yet (including other source games like Counter-Strike Source). I will check back if I do or if I can pinpoint the problem.

System Specs
Dell XPS 410
E6400 @ stock speed
2 gig ram
320 gig hd
Geforce 7800GS @ stock speeds

Got artifacts again today card temp was only at 58 degrees. Alt-tab to do a screen shot then got the blue screen of death.

Thats too bad. I've had a good experience with my XFX 7900GS running at stock. Its possible you just got a bum card.

Are you guys using the Dell driver for that system ? I would try the latest Nvidia driver as several posts in the Woot thread refer to these same issues when using the Dell driver compared to the newest Nvidia driver.

I downloaded all the latest drivers when I got the system so I dont think that is it. I even re-installed them 2 times to make sure. The problem continues. I am in the process of trying multiple games to see which ones have the problem. So far its just in "source" engine games (HL2, Lost Coast, CSS) and mostly in resolutions 1280 X 1024 and higher.

I also just got some major artifacts with doom 3. It started out with the soldiers outfit having multi colored specs on it then major artifacting. I then got a memory cannot be written error.

Sorry to hear the news on the 7900GS. I am going to voltmod mine from 1.2 to 1.4 and add a good cooler to it, as well as ramsinks, and see if I can't make mine 100% stable thru the benchmarks. Its hit or miss (seems like the more I bench it lately, the more it misses) so I believe this will fix all of my issues at least.

Looks like it was just a crappy graphics card. The new 7900gs dell sent me worked 100% fine. I have run through all the games (doom 3, HL2, Far Cry, Etc) without problems. I can run max details without any artifacts. Maybe dell got a bad batch.
