Don't be too sure about the clocks. The 6600GT is on the 110nm process, runs at 500MHz, but has only one third of the pipelines to run at that speed. The G70 will generate substantially more heat and consume substantially more power with 24 pipes. I heard its close to 300 million tranny's.
Not to be picky, but I much prefer 'transistors' . What you wrote often means something else 😉 .

The only thing which I find striking (shocking) is the ridiculous length of the card. Nvidia has never been one to shy away from a long card, and this continues their tired old tradition. This card looks to be almost double the length of a regular GPU. Sure it needs a lot of power, but I wouldn't be surprised if ATI's next card is significantly shorter (as always).
Nvidia, get with the program!
Apparently you haven't seen the articles about the R520 "master" cards being the longest cards to date due to the space needs for the AMR?
Either way, I could care less about power requirements, card size, motherboard requirements- it's all about what it gives in return.
As I'm not living in the case with the card, it can take up as much room as it likes.
As usual Rollo giving a counterpoint to defend Nvidia, then coming to his senses (realizing ATI hasn't made a production card as long as this yet, and probably won't in the near future) and then declares that he couldn't care less one way or another.
I don't care about what ATI's "master" cards look like - we're talking about production cards here - and I wasn't discussing power requirements (which is, however another sticking point for me). I was pointing out how annoying it is for many/most users when companies release extremely long cards like this, and this G70 is supposedly close to production so I'm miffed that the final length will be even close to this. It's a serious pain putting these things into normal sized cases!
Plus, knowing you've been using SLI at some point, you obviously have a large case with tons of extra room. Most do not have this commodity. Forget about putting one of these cards into a Shuttle PC, btw 😉 .

"GTX"...what happened to GT? I'm so tired of this constant marketing suffix enhancing..."Pro" used to mean the best, now it's "XT PE Double++"..."GT" becomes "GTX"...so on. Just stick with one scheme so I can actually inform customers of what's good and what's not, please! And as for ATi, they've run out of numbers on their current setup, what's R520/600 going to be called? X1800?
Y800 Pro and Y800 XT PE? I agree that the nomenclature has gotten ridiculous. Plus fun tricks like the GeForce 6800 GTS (being slower than a regular GT) to fool consumers further. Not to mention every XX50 ATI card, which is usually slower than the XX00 version or at leat no better (eg 9250, 9550).
Quite frankly, I think there's just too much choice in the video card market.
I think, for example, a 6200, 6600, 6600GT, 6800, 6800GT lineup is fine (that much choice is much appreciated). All of the extra iterations are just pointless (eg the various versions of the 6200, 6800GTS, etc). ATI is even worse, with the short-lived X700 series clogging an already loaded roster with the X300's, X600's, X800 XL/Pro/XT/XT PE .
