I was considering the purchase of either a GeForce 8800GT or a 9600GT but I am having trouble discerning whether or not my motherboard will support the 9600GT due to it being a PCIE 2.0 card. I bought this computer from Dell in January of 07.

The CPU is a Intel Core2 6400.'
TechPowerup says the Bus Interface is PCI-E x16 @ x 16

Will either of these fit on my board?

Hmmm.. OC 9600GT vs stock 8800GT... very similar performance. Would you overclock the 8800GT? I like my 9600GT's, some argue that the increased shader power on the 8800GT is better for the future though. If you like to stay current and plan to buy something in the next wave of technology, I'd save some dough and go 9600GT. That's a nice cooler too.

That's what i'm thinking. Why spend more money on a card when you can use that money to upgrade when next generation cards come out in the future. The 9600GT OC and 8800GT from what I have seen are similar in performance and architecture, while the price of the 9600GT 15% cheaper. When the next gen of games comes out that requires better cards i will subsequently upgrade. Although, the fact that I am functionally running a 7300LE seems to me that the 9600GT will suffice for quite some time.
