GeForce 6800GT OC vs. GeForce 7800GTX

How do these cards compare? I know the 7800GTX is the "Ultra" version of the 7800 chip.... but is it really worth the $200 price difference?

Also, are the prices of the 6800's going to come down a little now that this is out?

Thanks.

The 6800 series is being phased out now, the lower model 7800 based parts should be showing up within the next month. Unless you find a killer deal on a 6800GT you may want to wait a little bit to at least see how the lower tier 7800s are going to perform and at what price point.

I've already done research and seen the benchmarks comparing the two. I'm asking for REAL WORLD comparisons of people that have had both GPUs, and asking if it's worth the $200 extra.

I'm still not going to be finished with my computer for at least a few weeks... so I'm guessing the base-7800 will be better than the 6800GT OC? I've only seen the marks on the GTX version... how many pipes does the 6800GT have anyways?

It's worth it if $200 is not that much of a blow to your wallet. The 7800 GTX performs comparable to 2 6800 GT's in SLI. Numbers aside, it's also better because it draws less power and has an actual working video decode assist for WMV. I personally agree with the suggestion that if you are not willing to pay for a 7800GTX, then wait for a the 7800GT.

Well here's my system so far:

*CPU ? AMD Athlon San Diego 3700+
*CPU Heatsink ? Thermalright XP90C
*CPU Fan ? Panasonic Panaflo 92mm High-speed
*Motherboard ? Asus A8N-SLI Premium
*Hard Drive ? WD Raptor 74 GB 10,000 RPM SATA
*Power Supply ? Enermax EG565AX-VEFMA 2.0 SLI
*Memory ? 2x512MB OCZ Platinum Rev2
*Video Card ? BFG 256MB GeForce 6800GT OC

I might just wait for that 7800 to come out....

EDIT: The only parts I have so far are the case, PSU, and motherboard... I haven't ordered anything else yet.

Downgrade your proc to a 3200 or 3000, get rid of the raptor, and upgrade to the 7800. You'll have much better performance.

FlyBono24, BTW the 7800GTX aint a Ultra, thats meant to come soon prob after ATi launch, the 7800GTX still has 1.6ns ram thats being out long time as new 1.3ns ram was ready 1 month too late fot the n40 last april.
