GeForce 6800 Ultra problem

I have a GeForce 6800 Ultra and an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and there seems to be some kind of problem. Whenever I play a game it hangs for several seconds at random intervals then continues like nothing happened, although the first frame after it stops hanging is rendered incorrectly. Several times in HL2 the whole computer crashed as a result of video problems, though the hanging occurs often in all other games. I looked online and apparently this is not uncommon with nForce3 motherboards and nVidia cards. Anyway I want to know if anyone is aware of a fix for this, and if not, if someone could recommend an overclocking utility so I can underclock the card and see if that fixes it.

first driver clean, second install 71.84 drivers. also install coolbits and see your clock speeds- if they are overclocked by default you have this setting in your cell menu on optimized turn it to manual (i think thats it not 100% sure). Your card could be throttling
edit: also what size power suppply do you have? make sure the leads going to the ultra are from 2 different lines

Uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, no difference. My clock speeds are what it says they should be. I have an Antec 480W TrueBlue power supply and they recommend 450W on the box. One of the power connectors is also connected to the hard drive, and the other one is not connected to anything else. What do you mean when you say my card could be throttling? I should also mention that I am now getting a BSOD when I load a game of Far Cry.

what ARE your temps? i doubt its throttling. did you try disabling fastwrites?

i forget how, but try to find the command to show hidden options in the bios. do that, then make sure "nvidia speedup" or similar is disabled in the "cell" menu. that automaticly overclocks your card, and it can cause pausing. thats what my card does when it is overclocked too high.

Disabled fast writes and turned off the dynamic video card overclocking thing. No more hanging or blue screens. Thanks a lot people.

Two people I know both had the shuttering issue, turning off fast writes and side banding worked I think.

I heard this is a bug in HL2 with nvidia cards. It happend to me in half-life. Also mine is a bfg ultra and from what i experianced the bios is a little buggy so i flashed it to the gainward bios and installed latest nvidia drivers and all is well. I didnt see it in the post and maybe i missed it but who made your video card?

I'm having the same problems described above.

I'm using the newest drivers from nVidia, and set NV/ATI Speed up to off, and turned off FastWrite.

My problems include FarCry: (and Driv3r) has not completely crashed, but it still hangs.
One frame will remain on the screen, and no keys are registered, but it eventually (15-30 secs) it will come back, and any buttons I've pressed will actually be pressed (ie, menu shows if I've pressed ESC).

The hanging happens so much, the game is almost unplayable.
Also, the graphics seem very buggy in both games: there is a lot of flickering.

For what it's worth, here's my setup: Computer Specification
