As I mentioned before, ATI needs patch fixes or stupid updates on it's catalyst junk to get games to perform correctly. Ohh, and Half Life 2, that will need a patch to run as well. Just wait and see!!! Where there's a game, ATI needs a patch. ATI is pathetic. Nvidia has the only stable device out in the market today. Stick with Nvidia to have a trouble free and hassle free gaming experience.

X800 XT PE's are the real deal. They are quieter, take up less space and are less power hungry than the 6800's. They are almost as fast or faster than the 6800 in games.

You're joking right? ATI isn't pathetic, they have been the leaders in the past few months when the 9800 pro was against the Fx series. Nvidia is great, but recently they have shown to be liars and a bit desperate in their tactics (i.e. the film clip of them dissing Ati, optimizing drivers in the past) and now I hear the doom3 might have a special optimization that not only helps Nvidia - but specifically hurts Ati.

I say - make it a fair fight.

The Ati and Nvidia feud is great for consumers. Both are good company's. It all depends on youre view of what has happened in the past and which you trust more.

There is some truth to that actually. ATI seems to have this annoying tendency to screw up older games in their new driver releases, games that worked fine with older drivers. I think ATI's hardware is excellent but they are really handicapped by these kinds of driver problems. I was looking for a new video card a few weeks ago and was seriously thinking about an X800XTPE (even if I had to wait to find one) until I found that all the newer Catalysts break an important graphical feature in one of my games, so that ruled out the ATI cards for me this time around. It seems that people are complaining about this sort of thing in other games too and some are even going as far as to have two XP installs, each with different drivers. Depending on what you play these things may not be issues at all, but it's not something I would want to risk running into after paying so much for one of these cards.

ATI is expected to do better in half-life 2. dont forget that in the original benchmarks between the x800 xt and the 6800 ultra, ati won supremacy. i'm still on the 6800 side tho.

How about going to OT or P&N if you wanna spread bull$hit?

I would suggest that same thing and then turn one machine into a strictly gamer only rig and the other for everything else!

Black magic,

There is no ATI X800XT, there is only the ATI X800XT PE, check ATI's web page for verification.

Both cards are extremely hard to get ahold of. The 'Ultra extreme' is only being manufactured by evgas (I believe, with a drawing of 5 people per month). However the BFG Ultra OC /w waterblock is clocked a 470 mhz core, so maybe you can get ahold of one of them.

The X800XT PE is being sold on the dell web page, however, I'm not sure how backordered it is, or whatever. Either way i've only seen the X800XT PE as 'comming soon'. It's the rarest card out there now.

the X800XT non Platinum is a part offered to the OEMs only there are X800XT non PE announced from asus already, they have dual DVI but are pci express only so far.

As for nvidia I would recommend the GF6800 ultra. you get dual DVI, good core and mem speeds, and is available if you do a little searching. I got a Leadtek A400 Ultra which is a GF 6800 Ultra based card.

I recommend you get a Leadtek or BFG branded card because they sell their Ultras clocked 25mhz faster than stock GF6800 ultras and thats basically a factory warranted overclock for you.
So my GF6800 ultra has a core speed of 425mhz as opposed to the stock 400mhz, but the memory speed is the same at 550mhz (1100mhz)
I paid the same msrp as an evga board, but got a better heatsink and core clock.

Also, Acanthus all Radeon X800 XTs are not Platinum.

ATI Radeon X800
ATI Radeon X800 XT
ATI Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition

Show me a non-PE for sale.

Make it a fair fight? like when ATi ran adaptive af and told no one, or the quack optimizations?

ATi drivers DO IN FACT need more "emergency patches" and driver updates to make games stable enough to run. In the past Neverwinter nights and Call of Duty were 2 titles that had major stability problems for me (on fresh formats so dont even try to play the "youre an idiot" card).

Milk3y:

Your whole doom3 comment is wrong as well, because the "30% faster" is actually about 10% faster, unless you are playing at unplayable settings, AND the patch effects the image quality, JUST LIKE NVIDIAS OPTIMIZATIONS USED TO AND FANBOIS LIKE YOU CRIED ABOUT FOR MONTHS OVER.

please, please just go away.

Just go to www.pricewatch.com and you should find geforce 6800 ultra extreme or Ati Radeon X800XT. I don't see any Ati Radeon X800XT PE. I recently purchased my Ati Radeon X800XT from one of the stores there for 450$ and I flashed it to Ati Radeon X800XT PE core/mem 526/587. Just thought I'd let everyone know that. Take care everyone!
