Yep, that price is outrageous as well. I really don't want to break the $500 barrier on the base price for any of the new cards. Aside from that, Monarch is top notch. They are the best supplier for high end pc parts for me locally.

Its a moot point. They both exist, they're just freaking rare at the moment.

Just how small does your wang need to be that spending $500+ on a video card that will be sub-$300 in ~6 months doesn't seem anything but ridiculous?!?

lets just hope we see 6800's on store shelves by the time Doom 3 and Half Life 2 are down a few aisles...

some kiddies are gonna go pick up a copy of the game, then realize that they need a bright shiny new vid. card because the integrated graphics in their Dull just wont cut it anymore...

if ATi are the only kid on the block (err...shelf) then that spells bad news for Nvidia for some time, they are missing out on the launch of THEIR game... Doom3 is all the hype they need...

It's pretty in line with what was expected. I already have an X800 XT on preorder for about $40 less than the PNY 6800 Ultra card comes out to after shipping, but that isn't really that much of a difference when you consider the price of the card. If you were considering actually buying one of these cards and thought it would be cheap, sorry to disappoint.
 
Yesterday morning I was doing my daily NewEgg.com visit and I saw both the 6800Ultra & the x800XT for sale,

The eVGA GrForce 6800 Ultra was selling for $559 and the Gainward X800 XT was going for $489. But then I checked back in the afternoon, and both links were dead. And today they went as far as to remove both from the 'Video Chipset' to select, from the Video Card page.

Well, just like a bloated Federal Government construction project, the 6800 cards are over budget, and late! Some 'launch.'

I feel bad for the folks who just 'HAVE TO HAVE IT NOW, DAMMIT!!!!' and are going to pay a significant premium over MSRP.
 
You know what would be nice? If they would bundle a 6800 Ultra with DoomIII... hehe "Buy DoomIII for $49.99 and get a FREE GeForce 6800 Ultra ($580 value.)" :shocked:
