Geforce 6800 (non-gt) won't overclock at all

Aight, well the thing is, I've been trying to overclock this freakin xfx geforce 6800 for a while now... powerstrip is the only tool that works, yet its shareware, which really sucks... So I am trying to get a way for forceware or rivatuner or any other program you guys have in mind to overclock... I've tried every driver available, but I'm sticking with 66.97... What programs can I try? Or how can I disable driver detection so I can o/c...

Have you tried any alternate sets of drivers (omega, etc.). I know my 9200SE (don't laugh) won't OC with catalyst drivers above 3.4, but I easily overclocked my card from (200, 166) to (266, 233) after installing the Omega drivers.

XFX is the devil. If you can I'd return the card to simply get rid of XFX but thats just me. Didn't research much before you bought it eh? I see an XFX bash thread at least once a day.

I am using XFX 6800 as well but both the coolbit and rivatuner worked.
Now clocked at 350/800 and pipeline unlocked 🙂

Hmm... I don't know then... But apparently, if I overclock and NVtuner checks to see if it tests, it resets to the default, 325/750, along with going from 85 hz to 60 hz for screen refresh... Coolbits I've tried... But all the programs but powerstrip keeps saying that my 6800 failed to test at the specified frequencies...

The watermark for wether Pine/XFX has a disproportionately high RMA rate in my mind will be if Monarch continues to carry them. They are the only e-tailer I am familiar with that stops carrying brands of product they have unaccetpable RMA percentages for. I have a XFX ti4600 VIVO that the ram went bad on within a month of getting it used from FS/FT, but for all I know the previous owner was abusing the heck out of it.

My experience with their customer service is excellent despite others having terrible tales to tell about it. I bought it as a bare card and when I called to see about buying the VIVO cable for it they shipped one to me for free.

Ricemarine,

I've experienced the exact same problem with my Leadtek 6600gt. Can't overclock (or even underclock) without the test failing and refresh changing from 75 to 60. It seems like some sort of software bug. Very weird.

What did you end up doing?

Peace...

I have an Apollo 6800LE that will do the same thing if I enable additional pipes because there were glitches in the additional pipes. The "acid" test was setting an overclock, then setting it manually back to default and then clicking on "test." If it fails and you haven't unlocked pipes or anything, then card is defective.

Ok Download Rivatuner if ya have not already got it
Click on the POWER USER tab
Click on the + for RivaTuner2.0 RC 15.4\Nvidia\Overclocking
click on DisableInternalClockTest
set value to 1
hit apply

Now try to overclock.

Install the latest 71.89 geforce drivers. Then use the coolbits registry tool to enable the built in OC'ing tool. I've got an Asus 6800 running at 400/800 rock SOLID on apparently what looks like a 6600GT looking heatsink. I'm holding off unlocking the 4 pipes.
