Geforce 6800 Lagging

I was playing Neverwinter nights, and I just noticed a lag in the game. Could this be my game or the geforce card? I have a brand new 64 3400+ system with a gefroce 6800 GT 256 card. When I go to explore a new area I havent been to, thats when it happens. Was wondering why it would lag? Is there a way to check and see if the card is running normal? If so how can you tell?

What do you mean by lag? do you mean skippy lag or loading lag? I have Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate (which are by the same company) on a crappy cpu and graphics card and the only real lag there is is when i cast too many spells.

how much ram do you have? whats the AGP apeture set to?
(if 512 or below, consider 1gb for ram, if agp apeture is not 256, set it to 256 🙂)

I am sorry, I shoulda explained better. Ok, while my character is running, he stops for like a split second then continues on. It was working fine untill yesterday, and have been playing for 2 weeks. Yesterday, my AVG antivirus automaticaly came on and did a virus scan while I was playing. It made me freeze up, so had to ctrl delete. I also updated that AVG to the new version yesterday, if that would have any affect on it? I know very little about these issues. Here are my specs. If you need more info or details, please ask me. Thanks. 🙂

A64 3400+
Asus K8v Deluxe
eVGA GeForce 6800 GT 256 mb
Corsair Value Ram 1GB (2x512)

does closing down all background programs (like avg for ex.) fix the problem? In your bios have you assigned 256mb for AGP Apeture?

Thanks Azzy. I just installed the same card and was experiencing video lag similar to my geforce 3 in eq2. I changed the aperture from 64mb to 256mb and it definitely made a difference.

Do you have the Evga 6800GT-256 also Genero? I am lost at rebooting into bios. How is that done? I wonder if it could also be the resoulution casing the lag? What do most you gamers run your games at? 800x640, or higher res. like 1024x768 etc? Think that will help?

to reboot into bios, Restart your PC and hold delete or it COULD be F2 or INSERT to get into bios. then search around the sections for Agp apeture

heh, seriously you should be able to run at very high resolution with such a good card, its just a settign that you have not set or drivers that you have not installed that is causing problem
after setting agp apeture to 256, report back please

I'll give it a try. Thanks Azzy!

I sent you a message azzy. I forgot to ask how to get out of bios while I am in there. Just want to be safe. And would all I have to do is just erase whatever setting it is on, and enter 256? Then do I click "enter", or a special key? Thanks 🙂

I also right clicked on the AVG icon on my lower right bar near the clock and clicked "Quit AVG control center", but it didnt fix the problem 🙁

no, its not against warrenty once you have set it at 256, go back to main menu (may have to press escape or something to get there) then follow option to Save and exit (not discard and exit)

I have the BFG card. Doom 3 runs like a champ but anything would after my ti200. The video lag issue in eq2 was reduced significantly after I changed the aperture setting. I still get some in town but that's expected.

I noticed everything runs fine, exept for that. It doesnt happen constantly, just at certain points in the game. I have shadows enabled, and that anti aliasing whatever that is. The character will stop like i mentioned above, just for like a half a second if that, which isnt too bad really, I just like something to work 100% perfect I guess. Maybe I am just looking for too much to go wrong, I dunno. I am still trying to figure what tab to click on in bios to find the agp aperture setting.
