geforce 6800 fan stopped GPU CORE TEMP ABOUT 307 DEGREES FARENHEIT!!!!!!

It's not your fault that the fan doesn't work(unless you did something with it), so send it right back to evga and ask for a replacement.

I say RMA it. If you don't want to go through that, then buy an NV Silencer or the Zalman (can't remember the exact name). Personally though, I would just say RMA it. As Goi said, it isn't your fault that the fan craps out on you. That is, unless you did something to it that you don't want us to know about 😉 😛 .

I dont think that the core would have made it that high as the maximum temp is ~125. After that the core would probably begin to melt. Additionally, the HS itself should keep it under that temperature.

Did you OC or OV or Mod the card at all?

Nah, silicon's good to ~200-300C in terms of physical structure, IIRC. However, you could start to cause damage to the PCB or other nearby components (SMD capacitors/resistors, for instance).

I did think that NVIDIA cards thermally throttled long before 150C, though...

The CPU would not get that hot, it would literally decompose.

There is definitely an error in your temperature sensor.

You were using your card even though you knew the fan was dead? Can you tell me what you were smoking, and where I can get some of that stuff?

So you had your case open and you were monitoring when the fan was on? Now the temp monitor, the nvidia driver monitor? You sure it is not F and not C? I know the normal 6800 is cooler then the gts or ultra since they have fewer running pipes. If your sure rma it, get a new fan and heatsink, or fix it on your own.
