I don't understand why this is happening... Once I installed my 6800GT, I was able to watch Step into Liquid at full screen with ZERO stuttering and ZERO frame drops... now that i've installed and now uninstalled nvidia's dvd decoder, SiL stutters and drops frames!??!!?

Simple solution: Stop watching SIL. It gets old after the first billion times.

Please God let this thread die. I am so tired of seeing it. 29 pages? at 50 posts per page? (my settings) WTF?????

Just found another problem after enabling VMR mode in the driver.
My ATI HDTV Blunder TV app refused to work under it, had to switch it back to overlay.

What if i buy a GeForce 6800Nu, will the video procesor work in it

also i found that there are two 6800nU models, one has physically 12 pipelines, based on NV41 core, while the other is the 6800Ultra with 4 pipelines disabled based on NV40 core, so how can I find that the 680nU I m buying is based on NV41 core & has OVP working with purevideo, cos as far as i see the other card (680U with 4 pipelines disabled) doesn't have working OVP

I m eying on XFX 6600GT (working OVP, but low performance compared to XFX 6800nu) or should i go for XFX 6800nU , is the OVP working in it? how much performance difference will i see if i play games at 1024X768 with 2XQ AA & Anis

AGP 6800NU is based on NV40, if u get an AGP version then your PVP will be just as limp wristed as the 6800gt/ultras

the PCI-E 6800NU is based on the NV41 where nvidia have fixed, to an extent, the PVP to do a bit more stuff....but its still not great IMO

well i jus downloaded the DVD decoders from nvidia, they do seem to make DVD's better and i know my 6800gt was doing something as the ambient temp was 4 degrees above normal (goin by a temp sensor on my case)

still it does nothing for DivX which most of my movies are kept in, and also nothing for the WMVHD, just limited DVD functionallity an thats it...proper crap if you ask me

Well this is very interesting. I found this news announcement at X-bit labs. It was posted on the 22nd of Dec. and I looked back through this post and no one has mentioned it yet... so I thought I would. I don't know if I would put that much stock into it... but here's hoping...

http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/v...ay/20041222052454.html

"NVIDIA unveiled its Programmable Video Processor in mid-April, along with the GeForce 6800-series of graphics processing units. The company, however, did not enable the PVP from the beginning and then even said the PVP of the GeForce 6800 was less advanced than that of the GeForce 6600, claiming that the former did not support HD WMV acceleration.

"X-bit labs can confirm that the PureVideo technology works on the GeForce 6800- and GeForce 6600-series graphics cards available in our laboratory, provided that special drivers and NVIDIA DVD Decoder is used. However, at least some NVIDIA GeForce 6800-series graphics cards for AGP bus require a BIOS update. Please keep in mind that different BIOSes are needed for graphics cards with different PCB designs."

Sounds like all we really need is a BIOS update for our 6800 cards... I wonder where they got their info and why no one else has confirmed anything like this... it seems a bit fishy that X-bit is the only one that has stated that there is a fix for this though they seem pretty firm about it. Like I said before... I don't know if I would put that much stock into it. I wonder if anyone has any contacts at X-bit labs to see where they got their information. I've sent Anton an email, who is the guy who posted it, and we'll see if I get a response.

whoah, thats pretty interesting. WTF though, thats all they have, no more info than that. You'd think they'd give some more info. So they say they have it working, and some require bios updates, and thats it? WTF? is there anything else there? I'd love for this to be true.

I haven't gotten a reply from Anton (the guy I emailed at X-bit) yet but if I hear from him, I'll post his reply. It sure would be great if there is some truth to all this. We'll see...

This slowly expiring, mostly pointless thread reminds me of something Caine said on Kung Fu back in the 70s:

Men do not beat drums before they hunt for tigers.

For those who don't get the Buddhist wisdom- "People who get things done don't usually hang around talking about them".
