I spoke too soon, it was the 300mhz overclock that did it most likely that I had done that morning, but at least I can watch it with software decoding on a barton running at 2500mhz. I don't have HL2 so I can't check that I'm afraid. 🙁

I am glad I got the 6800NU but one thing I am clearly pissed about is the need to buy the sticking driver. How crap is that! 30day demo for a feature I paid $$$ for! That is bold.

But it works just as bad on NU as the others, it is the same problem unless you have a pci-e version.

I got NU to, overclocked a lot (NU here cost the same as Ultra in USA), and it doesnt ork here either because it is the same video chip.

That sux. Well I use a GF4 MX480 / Haupage PVR250 in my HTPC and I don't watch much TV ( law and order, Enterprise, and some cartoons ) so HDTV is bogus to me anyway atm. In 12 months or so when we need to get Nvidia/ATI power cards once again the HDTV, if it finds signifigance in my eyes, might be good to recycle the 6800 to the HTPC; thus, making the card really have some longevity. In that regards, Nvidia better have some way to compensate us.

Personally I bought it for HL2 and CS:S but I would like ATI and Nvidia to finally live up to its PR hype.

hooflong, if you use an htpc for dvds, have a look at the 6800 in there, or at least have a serious look at its dvd quality along with the new drivers and new codecs. All the video processor issues aside, the dvd playback, as far as Image Quality, is truly second to none. I'm extremely pissed about the non-working PVP, and had it not been for the stellar dvd quality, my 6800 would have been dumped a long time ago. Anyways, have a looksie. Also, if you were interested in the great IQ of the new 6800 series in your HTPC rig, you could pick up a cheap 6200 and the dvd image quality would be exactly the same as a 6800u. And laughably, the 6200 actually, would be better suited for the HTPC, since it doesn't have the disfunctional PVP chip. It's hardware on chip decoder, actually works!!! lol.

People no one knows for sure the extent of ANY of the 6 series video function. But I have been seeing posts at many forums that are saying that hard wmv decoding will be available with a patch for wmp10. This patch has only been released to reviewers atm but will enable the FULL FUNCTION to the non nv40/45 6 series cards. Its just a waiting game now. Also if you are using an ati card there is a registry tweak that will enable the hardware decoding.

"Do not interrupt our righteous walking around in a circle for months saying "Grrrrrrrrrrrr"."

yeah, and do not not disagree with a Nvidia "True Believer" like Rollo:laugh: Oh ye of little faith, Nvidia will deliver, just like they always do(lol) you'll see

Can someone please Translate Rollo's randome mumble jumble into english for me please, cause out of 64 pages i think 32 are here as of his blabbering, i cant make sence of any of it.

Hey, you don't see me promising the WMP10 fix, do you wiseguy?

Just shredding games on my X800XT PE and loving every minute of it. (BTW- came with VIVO, Rage Theatre, and a webcam- how's that for some video functionality?)

Uh oh. Did I just post that I like my ATI uber-card?! Must shatter your warped little view of reality. 😉

<waits for more: "Waah. Buying/using/liking expensive ATI cards is the oldest trick in the nVidiot book! It's a well known fact nVidiots sell there nVidia cards and spend about $500 on ATI cards because they are in love with nVidia!"> LOL

And Humey, since you can fit about 10 of my posts into 1 of the epkings manifestos, I think we know who has the lion's share of words in this thread.

You two can go back to the "We'll get'em soon, and evil Anand too!" circle jerk.

I think the 71.24 drivers actually killed some more functions with WMV... before with 6x.xx, Step Into Liquid ran smoothly with ~80% CPU usage with no skipped frames... but with 71.24, I'm losing 1-2 frames a second and its a little choppy!!!

I actually don't care about DVD playback quality on my HTPC. I use powerdvd and it plays them fine on the TV I have. And my 6800 is currently in my main gaming rig and that uses Windows 2000 pro, I dumped XP since my XP CD is from day one release and I have to call MS every time I install it on my PC fresh. Thus, Windows MP10 WILL NOT INSTALL on windows 2000. One way to cut out OS support is to only provide new multimedia functions in the OS you want to support. Thanks MS 🙁

But as far as Nvidia is concerned... this is bad PR... and I would hope they release SOMETHING for us linux users as well. I want a 6600GT in my barton 2800+ linux rig... and some sort of support would be nice. However I think they will take an ATI-esque mulligan to linux PVP.

It's statistically very likely both ATI and nVidia deliver on a higher level than both you and the company you work for.

Are you the first or second best in the world at what you do? nVidia and ATI are.

Is your company the first or second best in the world at what they do? Do they provide cutting edge technology and innovation at prices everyone can afford? ATI and nVidia do.

So I guess the question could be "Why can't mwmorph deliver at near the level of the companies whose performance he so casually questions"?

haha classic flame... vgf

Wow, what a thread... May I ask you people for your opinion on the PureVideo image quality? I've got the 6800gt, and yeah i know it won't take any load off the processor for HD decoding, but that's fine cause my athlon 3500 can handle it. I am currently using the free NVDVD to watch movies. My question is this - would it be worth it to pay the $20 and get the PureVideo codec? Will I notice any difference in terms of image quality? And how does this compare to other programs such as WinDVD and PowerDVD?

I agree, this is an informative, if not sometimes slightly off topic thread: My .02 cents, we've paid a premium for a video card, many of us have purchased aftermarket fans, thermal goo and (for those of us who have), I am of the opinion an extra $20.00, even though it should be ours for the taking, is a worthwhile investment in the hardware.

My CPU usage went from 85% to 10% by implimenting the PV decoder....so, I'm kissing another $20.00 goodbye.

I'll shut-up now. 😀

Im happy for you, but what GPU.

My 6800U dont drop any % and that Nvidia decoder is POS, why dont it have console like others, power dvd, windvd, nero, i had wonder around prog folder and fins the exe to make shortcut to it to play wmv,s i didnt like it 1 bit :disgust:
