Take a look at the Hexus review, the system tested had a P4 3.4EE chip in it and CPU usage was still at 98% without WMV acceleration from the GPU.

It makes no mention of wether HT is enabled or not that I can find. I'd presume it's disabled to get CPU to 98% since as mentioned above even p95TT only shows as 50% with HT. I don't have a HT system to test with though so it's up to others that do 🙂

Then I guess the best way to test the GPU is to disable HT. I edited my first post and emphasized it in bold. 🙂

I'd guess a better question would be when/if nVidia plans on enabling it? Has anyone found any news of this? I googled it, and searched nvnews, but couldn't find anything.

lol....Hopefully that won't be necessary, but then again, if Nvidia still can't get off their collective asses and provide us with a promised feature months later....

For those of you saying it works, 7 of you, Please post screens.

Run video, task manager, and the advanced statstics tab and take a shot before the end minus 10sec.

A P4 HT CPU can run many apps and yet the CPU usage will show only 50% even with CPU intensive stuff

OK, I see what you're saying. I wasn't aware that HT would work with WMV decoding, then it definately would be the HT rather than any benefit from the cards processor. If the processor was working, HT systems would show even less load on the cpu.

I just tried it on my Athlon XP 3200+ and 6800GT. The GPU temperature didn't rise, but Media Player's CPU usage hovered around 75% and wasn't laggy until I switched to this window to reply. Other programs running: Two instances of IE (not including this reply window, which I opened upon completion of the video), LimeWire, two Explorer sessions, GigaByte ET4 (temperature monitor), Media Player (obviously), Photoshop, mIRC, AIM, Task Manager, and the nVidia temperature monitor. Ambient temperature is roughly 68F, 50C around the GPU, 67C inside the GPU, 42C inside the case (according to ET4), and 53C socket temperature (according to ET4).
Even if this PVP thing isn't working right, I'm still wholly impressed at how it laughs at every game and setting I throw at it. 😀

With a Barton 2500+, 1.5gb or RAM and a 6800GT, I get @100% utilization using the liquid clip. Full screen drops a lot less frames than in windowed mode which is like a slideshow. Isn't it nice to have a full range of nv40 cards partially broken and overpaid for?

I get 41 to 59% usage with my Leadtek 6800GT
HT was enabled though. I'll try turning it of in bios and see what happens.

Ran with HT disabled and got 100% CPU usage and choppy.
So it dosen't work without HT enabled. I'm using the 66.81 drivers

Oh, that reminds me, I'm only using the 61.77 drivers... Does that make a difference? Like, do the beta drivers not support the PVP function because nVidia is still ironing out the gaming performance bugs and dropped the PVP functionality to isolate potential problems?

Edit: Hrrf. I apparently downloaded the wrong file, let me try it with the ACTUAL Step into Liquid trailer. I'll get back to you as soon as possible with the results (previous results were with the Windows Media Player demo trailer at the top of the WMVHD download section, I wasn't paying attention to what I was downloading).
Edit 2: Negative. The card temperature goes up 3 degrees C (which I assume is from the GPU actually having to do work instead of loafing around like it's been for the past four hours), and CPU utilization stays around 88-95% for Step Into Liquid; on the T2 trailer it hovers around 65-70%. All specs are the same as the previous test.

That's the data I was after 🙂 Very interesting that this task can use up 59% of a 3ghz with HT :Q I'm beginning to wonder if the PVP on the 6800GT is borked/defective and we are getting the run-a-round? If so I'll be rather bent with nV....

The CPU load should be significantly lower than that for the GPU to be working, but then I am not sure what your system specs are.

I find it interesting that 9 votes said the video processor works, but has yet to show any proof of this while everyone else who voted otherwise are posting their results. Looks like the poll is flawed.

I'm really thinking that WMV acceleration simply has yet to be enabled, its testing no different than weeks ago when we were looking at it closely. I do think that MPEG decoding has been enabled, because I'm getting odd results testing HD MPEG-2 files, either low CPU use with a slideshow display, or crashing software, but that could be some conflict with my rig.

What would be nice is a HD test file, or transport stream to download and try like we're doing with the WMV files.

I want to believe it just isn't enabled, but why is it working with the nV43 and not 40 or 45? It's also troubling that even the FX is more effective than either with the content  You and I, among others, have been on about the PVP since june or july now, so I'm about out of patience if it's just a matter of enabling support :frown: Me thinks a scandal is brewing but I hope I'm just Coo-coo for Coco Puffs! on this one....

I doubt that will yield any answers but it's worth a shot, so thanks for going proactive on the topic

My cpu usage hovers around 70. I said it was working, but I don't know if 70 qualifies it as such. My BFG GT is one of those green w/reference cooler ones.

Edit With a A64, so no hyperthreading. Incase people are too lazy to look at my rig.

Same card here 🙂 Which drivers? I also wonder if having the 1mb cache version is helping?

If it was working, it should show significantly lower CPU load. 70% is still a bit high.
