GeForce 5700 Ultra OR Radeon 9600 XT

Have one, sure glad its not working for nvidia or ati.😉

All the reviews I have read suggest that these cards perform about the same. I would get whichever had best package and price. Where I shop (in Canada), the 9600xt is quite a bit cheaper, but that could change.

As you can see ATI was smart to lower thier price. Not a bad deal. However the 5700 Ultra is way overpriced considering you can get an insanly fast card for $2 more in the FX5900.
 
going to best buy right now, im not sure what im gonig to get, but im coming home with something, cause i am SO SICK of this geforce 4 mx 440 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't mean to upset you ronnn. Apparently I have. I know its hard to face, but you have to try and deal with it instead of lashing out at your fellow AT members. I tried to run that game on my 9700 but it just wouldn't go. Do you have a problem with that? It just happened. I wanted to test IQ against my 5900 originally as you can see from my post. So what is up with you? Why did you say that to me?

Dont' forget one import aspect, which is power consumption.

I heard ATI 9600 series run much cooler than 5700 series.
That's why you see some models use passive cooler which would be
very nice for those noise senstitive consumers.

so what are the best drivers to go with for the 9800 pro?

The card ran me $299.99 before tax, i dont remember the exact total of the card since i bought other stuff along with the card. But im guessing around $320. I didnt buy it online cause I dont exactly have $300 to blow on anything. Lets just say tax returns are always good for bills. 😛

But going from a Geforce 4mx 440 to this card, is like going from a Ford Pinto to a Corvette Z06. This card absolutely hauls ass. Pain Killer runs like pure butter, and every game ive tried on it ran like cake. I'm glad I chose this card, cause it really does show its worth the money, my only gripe is the darkness of the ATI's in general. I liked Nvidia's contrast/brightness defaults, wasnt too dark in some games, wasnt to bright either. ATI's have always seemed darker to me in games. But thats an easy fix, other then that I cant complain, the card is 100% badass. I'm very pleased with it. I'm going to do some benchmarks later on today after work to see how it compares to others, consider me ATI'ed.

Going from a 440MX to that monster was one heck of an upgrade.

BIG differnce. Correct me if I am wrong, but the 9800SE has like half the pipelines, and is only 128 bit. Right?

 
does there happen to be a call of duty benchmark utility within the game? or is it a timedemo command, similar to quake 3? ill run a bunch of various benchmarks for you guys, quake 3, ut2k3, call of duty, and even pain killer pre-alpha. btw, what was that 3rd party benchmarking tracker called? the one that recorded fps, and misc. other stats.
 
your right, but i was refering to the 5900's. they have 2 5900's out that are marked XT, or SE. but the ati 9800 SE is what u stated, 4 pipeline, 128bit. the 5900 xt/se however, are not 4 pipeline 128bit, their same as 5900 ultra, just clocked a lil slower.

A 5900 a better card than a 9800P at the same price? No. That's probably why 5900s are much cheaper than 9800Ps.

If you meant a 5900/SE/XT is a better card than a 9600XT/5700U at the same price, I agree. But both the 9600XT and 5700U have sunk down to $150 recently, separating them a bit from the $190 5900s/SEs. The $150 mainstream cards tend not to include good games, though, so I still consider $190 5900SE w/CoD a better value.
