as the title of this thread suggests, i have a feeling that the upcoming nv30 will be called the Geforce 5 (very creative, eh?)

my main question to you guys is: when do you think nvidia should stop using the Geforce x naming scheme, and move onto a new name for their latest and newest video cards?

your opinions and views here to this question are appreciated..... thx :)

The name has been verified to be GeForce FX.
nVidia popped up some papers on their tech papers on the site for a short time before they were pulled, among the varied bit of info was the official launch name of GeForce FX.

When should they stop using it?
Now!

It is IMHO the single worst product name I've heard.

GeForce?
How that name ever when the naming contest I'll never understand... what is this, the Force of G's?
Woohoo!
They've got the power of G!
The almighty "G" Force!

Yes. "Ge" was meant to stand for Geometry, and Force being an indication of acceleration, so as to hype up it's T&L unit.... but come on, can they not find a beter way to take a spin on the Geometric capabilities?

I've heard some unusual product names, but that one is just downright stupid in my mind.
Granted I've long since become accustomed to it, but it's a poor product name nonetheless in my opinion.

It was a terrible name to begin with, and it's just carrying on.....

so it's official then.... i just saw a thread containing a link to it. looks like my question has been answered, and thus we have a new naming scheme, albeit, still with the term "Geforce" in it.

good to know.... thanks pillage2001!!

Yeah, I don't like the geforce name either but it's starting to stick. I was at Bestbuy and some kids were asking their mom for a new "Geforce" for their computers... they were holding an ATI Radeon box. I laffed. Now that's marketing.

FX feels too close to MX.. the less computer-inclined people out there are going to get even more confused.

A friend and I mentioned that too...won't some people become confused...I guess they can tell the difference because of the price tag though :)

Tates is correct! They are calling it geforce fx because this is the first card from nvidia with 3dfx technology included since they bought them out!

Although those particular kids were too ignorant to realize they didn't have a geforce of any sort, most people can read the box label and find out. Since the geforce name is so well known, it makes sense keep using it.
