GeForce 4 TI4200 or GeForce FX 5600XT?

The FX 5200 Ultra seems *near" on par with the Ti4200. Is the FX 5200 a worthy consideration also ?

It isn't. If you want DX9 you should go 9600Pro or more, and that does not include Fx5600 series.

It doesn't seem that Nvidia will offer a true "leap" in video performance until the next gen after the FX series. It seems the FX series was a step sideways rather than forward, like the GF series was.

The 5200 Ultra is a terrible card. It approaches 4200 level performance only if you enable AA or AF otherwwise it performs like a GeForce4 MX 460.

Even a GF3 is faster than a 5600XT. XT (nVidia) = 64bit memory. XT (ATi) = higher clock rates + overdrive.
Nobody should buy a 64bit card in 2004 if he wants to play recent games.

How about the ti4200 vs the FX5600 Ultra with 550 Mhz ram? Those seem to be showing up for some pretty low prices lately. But I would agree if the XT only has 64 bit memory, run away as fast as you can toward any Geforce 4 Ti4200 card.

The entire 5600 family in general was just a bad move on nVidia's part, as far as AA/AF goes on those cards, you can just forget about it, that's why the've changed their card lineup about 4 times, to release new chips to remedy the bad ones. This sound familiar? 5800 is replaced by 5900, 5200 ultra is scrapped all together, 5600 is replaced by 5700, 5900 is replaced by 5950 as a response to ATI's 9800XT. lol, I think ATI has changed thair lineup mabye once? twice tops? I hope nVidia gets their act together with their next-gen cards or i'll be buying an ATI next time around
