64mb version of the card beats 128mb version of the card.

64mb uses the hynix ram and 128mb uses the samsung ram.

In most of the benchmark tests and overclock tests 64mb is always better than the 128mb version one.

I believe there are anandtech articles backin' up my statement as well.

Last week's Fry's deal of $149 (AR) for GF4 Ti4200 was a good deal. I bought it and oc'ed and it's running faster than a GF4Ti4600.

wasn't the brand "best data" or something like that? anyway, AT's review suggests we get a 128mb card because future games might need it

Correct, almost every article mentions you should get the 128 over the 64 for the $20 increase in price. It will future proof your card. I have seen articles mention that UT 2003 will have some 80 MB textures. That's where you start seeing the difference in performace.

The 64 has the faster Hyinx ram, but on all of the tests the 128 pretty much matched or beat its performance. On most tests, the GPU was the limiting factor, and on the tests with more complex textures, the 128 whooped it pretty well. Also, Doom3 will have some 80 MB textures that will limit the 64's performance. And I'm sure games from Doom3 and on will have similar, if not more complex, textures.

Long story short, they're both good, but the 128 definitely outperforms the 64 on complex textures, and is a much better long-term investment.
