Not sure what happened here. i was all excited about getting the new gforce 4 mx440. I ran the benchmark on my old card ( v7100mx) scored a 2054. (yeah i know it sucks). installed the gforce 4 used both nvidia det 23.11 and the drivers that came with it, scored 1915. not sure what the deal is but wouldn't you think that it would score higher? i completely uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers and still scored about the same. i am running XP with p3 733 and 512mb of mem. anyone have any ideas what the deal is with this?

yah, the gforce 4 mx is nothing but a gf2 mx with multi-monitor support. the ti series are the ones with high anticipation for benchmarking.

Actually that does sound horribly wrong, while the GF4mx is alot slower than the GF4Ti cards they certainly shouldn't be slower than a GF2mx (the 440 is running DDR after all). Wait for some more educated input, but I'm thinking reinstall. Good luck.

ZzB, that's what i was thinking. i may end up stepping back to 98se and see if there is a difference there. i know when i saw the scores it completely blew me out of the water. i figured it would beat the pants off the old gf2mx card. considering it have twice the memory and has ddr mem. Hopefully someone else has a suggestion about this. anyone?

Sounds like you have FSAA on 4x in Nvidia display properties panel,my score for my GF2 Ti is normally around 4725 in 3DMark2001SE with FSAA off but if I have 4x FSAA on it goes in the 1500 range.

Hmm. 2054 is about right for a GF2 MX on your system, I would also expect a result close to 3000 from the GF4 MX.

Have you published your results so we can look at each individual test to possibly identify a problem?

Give your drivers a fresh start by uninstalling from control panel, switch to PCI VGA adapter, remove nVidia from registry, reinstall latest official drivers. When the drivers are installing, and there are any duplicate files (i.e. "should windows keep the latest file") make sure you press NO to ensure you have all the proper files installed for that release. This is helpful for people who shift around beta drivers alot and don't clean up, it can cause some mixes of drivers which can produce strange results.

unfortunately i didn't publish my results. i can run it again and publish it tonight when i get home. also i will try what you suggested too. make sure i got everything out of the registry and do a fresh install on the drivers. should i go with what the card came with or should i use the det. drivers? i also notice that there are new ones that leaked out 27.51's think i am going to try these also and see if they do any improvement. Thanks again for all the help you guys. :)

Mine score about 4661(325/485) on T'birddie 1G + 384MB ram. Im using 27.20 on WinXP. Pabster got 5559 with his P4 2G in his review for the MX440. May be he use the first edition instead of SE.

I get 3360 in 3dmark2001 without FSAA on my overclocked GF2 Ti card. I'm not sure why it's lower than a lot of others; maybe because of all the quality settings I've enabled. :)

Is AGP fully enabled, and do you have the latest chipset drivers installed?

Did you remember to uninstall nVidia's drivers before swapping the cards?

Erm.....many GF2 MX 400's had Multi Monitor support, the Geforce 4 MX 440 is a fairly different beast although saying that it only shares limited features of the proper GF4.

The GF4 MX only supports 2x FSAA don't it?. Even at this level it could still slow things down. You should expect stores comparable to the GF2 Ultra, Higher than the GF2 Ti.

Copied from nvnews:

Q: Digit-life is reporting that the Geforce4 MX Supports vertex Shader version 1.1. Does the 4 MX support Vertex Shaders through software emulation?

A:GeForce4 MX accelerates vertex shaders, and can run vertex programs, but with less overall performance than GeForce4 Ti. Some functions are executed on CPU, some on the GPU - a hybrid model.

Brian Burke
NVIDIA Corp.

My question, what is vertex shader and its use?

Well i think i found the problem. i was reading in another post that someone installed powerstrip and had the core engine register at 135 mhz so i decided to do the same and see what mine is clocked at. the very same thing so that would explain the lower scores since the v7100mx had a clock speed 166. so the card is going back and getting exchanged for the gforce 3 ti 200. thanks for all your help guys.
